Re: Over 40 and IVF

  • Well I am 43 and with my first IVF, I had 9 at day 3 (which was my transfer day).  They put in 5 that day and sadly the rest did not make it to freeze.

For my age group they have a transfer saying at my clinic ... "5 on day 3, 3 on day 5."

Hope that gives you some insight.

    **** siggy warning - bfp & loss ****   ---- All Welcome ---

    Me: 44 - Hashimoto's (under control), DH: 38 - (minor issues)

    IUIs: 2 in 2012 ... Both BFN
IVF #1: 10/16/13 ... BFP, however it was not viable and ended in an early loss at 7weeks.

IVF #2: Feb '14 ... Cancelled. Positive beta at baseline appt, became very early loss.
    IVF #2: Apr '
14 ... Retrieval Only. 2 embryos made it to day 3 freeze & will be batched with IVF #3 for PGD testing.
    IVF #3: June '14
    ...
Retrieval Only. 4 embryos growing, all arrested before day 5. Two from April thawed, but also arrested.
Currently benched while determining how to proceed.

  • The paperwork says that they will do a maximum of 3.  However, they also enclose a letter (for all patients) recommending only 1 due to the emotional, physical and financial strain that multiples can cause.

At my initial consult, my doctor said he recommends 4 at my age. That scares me to be honest....Though, it also scared me if I say "less" and than I don't get pregnant. I don't want to be mad at myself for not listening to him.

I have 10 fertilized embryos last I heard..but haven't received any updates on progress or quality. ...perhaps if they are higher quantity, they will recommend less...or perhaps I don't have 10 left..I wish I knew more details

    This is a hard decision

  • We transfered everything I had for both cycles.  Cycle 1 I had 4 embryos and cycle 2 I had 3 embryos.
