Rich Kid Names

Saturday was my girlfriend's DD's 4th birthday party-- her and her H are very well off and they live in a fancy schmance neighborhood.  These were the names of the kids (mostly all were from the private preschool her DD goes to) but some live on the same block.  Everyone was under 6.  I put the sibs together.

Jack and Caroline

Jacob and Julia

Caroline (another one)

Jack (another one)

Sadie and Holly

Josephine (DD-- we aren't rich though--LOL)

Benjamin and Avery (g)

Avery (g) and Olivia (twin girls)

Knox

John

Courtney and Andrew

That's all I can remember.  Knox is the only one that stands out to me (not in a great way).

Re: Rich Kid Names

  • Its like that scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

"This is Jack and Caroline. Her brother Jack, cousin Jack and his wife Caroline. Their daughter Caroline, my best friend Jack and their twins Jack and Caroline."

    *yawn*.

Ha!   I guess what we have learned here is that rich people have boring taste in names.

  • Yeah these names are pretty bland. I don't have the most wild and crazy taste myself, but the only ones I like out of this list are Sadie and Holly.

I don't find them boring at all.  Most of those are classic and timeless (minus Knox and Avery, which is too trendy right now).
I have (self proclaimed) boring taste in names.  I was hoping for a Xaiden or something, yanno?

Am I missing something because I don't see anything wrong with these names. Better than Madden, Braelyn or Sawyer for a girl.

There's nothing wrong with them at all.  I am just jealous I guess because you all post some amazing lists sometimes and I was trying to contrast that with these names.

  • I don't consider them rich kid names at all. I know plenty of Jacks and Julia's who are definitely not from a "well off" family. They are just average names to me. IMO

I read this post as more of a- hey I happened to be around a bunch of kids whose parents happened to have a lot of money and these were their names. More of a description than a judgement.
Yeah, I kind of got the gist that it's a bit tongue in cheek and not so serious/judgmental.

  • DH and I are still working on a girl's name. He admits that his preferences run towards "boarding school names" but none of those names has made his list. He also wants a name that could be a "hippy" name as well, hence the difficulty in agreeing.
  • Jack and Caroline is very Kennedy to me. Actually, it'd be a little weird for me to have kids names John and Caroline. I'd also probably not use John and Robert together.

  • Knox.... awful.
  • Oh I made the cut! (Courtney) Lol. The names are all very classic sounding to me. Typical for upper class. PP I do recall the article you are speaking of in regards to class and style of names. I like the names on there own but they are rather boring as a whole.

Something about this post is rubbing me the wrong way, Helanah.  I love you, obviously.  But, I don't like this all "rich" and "fancy shmancy" qualifiers and these are the names.  I can't put my finger on why it's bugging me, though.  Maybe because they are totally normal?  I'd hardly call them "rich kid" names so much as "general, American" names.
I am stuck in Joy's box

I guess I just wanted to share the names form the birthday party-- and I was trying to think of a way to describe the demographics of the atendees?  That seems to be an interesting topic to a lot of us- names and demographics (myself included).

I want to make it perfectly clear that I was NOT including myself or my family in this demo.  We are farrrrrr from even comfortable.

  • I currently live in a very well off neighborhood (renting from my parents!), and I agree that "rich" people have boring/classic taste in names.
For example, my son's class list:
    Ava
    Michael
    Zachary
    Molly
    Abigail
    Carter
    Aidan
    Benjamin
    Maggie
    Grant
    Keira
    Charles
    Kaitlyn
    Allison
    Joshua

Not a hipster nor you-neek name amongst them!
  • I'm surprised one of them wasn't named Crispin lol
    Baby Maloney due 8-3-14!
    Pregnancy Ticker
    Anniversary

  • They're all nice names--nothing too exciting in there. But better that than something where an "i" has been replaced with "y" or the like.

  • I really like this list....except for Knox and Avery (for the girl). I was expecting more last names as first names.
