Can contractions stop? Or slow down?

I've been timing my contractions since 9 am this morning, they started off 15 minutes a part, then 10..5.. Then they started getting further apart as the day went on. It's now 5 pm and they're getting closer again. I did call the hospital earlier today and I was advised until they are 3 minutes a part to just stay home unless I'm in a lot of discomfort. My labour pains seem to be mainly in my back also. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything like this

This is extremely common. In many ways it's preferable to going from 0 to 60 all at once because you get to sort of ease into the intensity.

I had contrax for two days before going into active labor with DS. Timing was all over the place.

My advice - if they slow down again, get some rest and sleep if you can. Babies like to really gear up in the middle of the night and you don't want to be spent before you even really get started.
