I'm in! I can't get any kind of alerts from TB about all the fabulous things you ladies talk about. If OP wants to pass off the responsibility, I can do it.
I think right about now would be a good chance for @Kivakira to come on in and open up the floodgates to her Facebook group. Let's get this friggin party started.
I'm in! I can't get any kind of alerts from TB about all the fabulous things you ladies talk about. If OP wants to pass off the responsibility, I can do it.
I am officially passing the torch to you! On the condition that you'll let me join, of course.
Okay, since the torch has been passed, do we want it to be a closed group, i.e. people can search and see the group page and members, but not posts. Or a secret group, i.e. only members can see the group, who's in it, and what is posted. Personally, I think the first would be easier. I can post the name of the group, and then if people don't join right away, they can search for it on FB later. Let me know what you ladies think.
From what I understand the first Fb group was closed when people started passing around the link and giving access to people without going through the process that was put in place for entry -- you were supposed to email JmeJme to request an add. She would then look at your posting history, etc. (to be sure you were legit) and then you would get added. When people started bypassing the process, they shut down entry to everyone else, including anyone who had a pending request in to JmeJme.
This was about 2 months ago and now that so much time has passed, I don't think that group of girls plans to add any additional members, but this is just my understanding and I'm not the expert.
Kivakira then attempted to start a second Fb group, but drama erupted when we foudn out she was letting any old random into the group, but lying to people about it. So, that ended quick.
Also, what do we want our name to be? Obviously something with May 2014 in it, I would assume. But then again, assuming makes an ass out of you and me, so give your input.

Something straightforward like "the Bump May 2014 BMB"?
So would it show up on our FB profile that we're in a group called "The Bump May 2014 BMB"?
I'd say yes. As an Admin on a closed group, I know our group shows up for non-members. A closed group, when searched, and opened by link, will not show posts, but the first thing you will be confronted with is the list of members. For an example, search "Appaloosas For Sale" group on FB. There are two, one is open, one is closed. Decide how comfortable you are with the upfront info displayed on the closed groups page, that is how a closed May '14 BMB group will display.
I guess my only concern is that it would be a free-for-all for anyone random to join. I'm not saying it should be really selective, but I'm worried that a bunch of people who have never posted at all would join. Maybe a private group would be better?

On a closed group, anyone can request admission, or recommend a friend to be added, but only an Admin can accept or deny admission. Not that that changes much, as then an Admin still has to figure out who everyone is.
ETA - unless you have people PM the Admins on FB with their TB names to verify. Either way it's a mess and takes loads of work to sort through everyone whether you decide closed or private. Private would be more controlled on this end though, which could ensure anyone getting in actually is on this board and not just picking a username on here at random.
I was thinking that when requesting permission to join the group, you would have to give your TB user name, so that it can be checked if you're a regular user. Or if you are seriously crazy. If any of you other ladies, who might better know who the crazies are, want to co-admin with me, send me a PM.
@kitchencolors Since you're a mod on here what do you consider a regular? I was thinking the people who respond to people's threads and post regularly, and have been active participants in the board in non crazy ways. Anyone else have criteria they think should be added for admittance?
Also, I was thinking I would pm those on this thread who are interested the group name/link to request admission. And as always, if someone becomes BSC, they can always be removed from the group by popular demand.
I am on FB more than the Bump, and I agree with PP that it's easier to get notifications on FB than on here. I also agree with Kitchen, though, that going through everyone's posting history could be very overwhelming for anyone in charge of doing so.
Just to save you the trouble: I have almost 1000 Bump points. So...whatever that means, I've got them!

Like keeumm mention regarding points -- I think for the first Fb group, when a PM request was received, the Mod checked to be sure the person had appeared to be an active poster, as opposed to a lurker with very few posts. I can't recall if they places a certain number on it, but I guess we could do something like that.

It seems like a good idea to have some kind of rules, but then you have to actually make rules. The issue I have is how fuzzy this language is. What does it mean to post regularly? Who decides what it means to be crazy?
How about we start with the ladies on this thread, and then if anyone else wants to join they can PM me. And like I said, if someone ends up being BSC, they will get removed from the group. So now the real question is who wants a closed vs. private group? See kat8805's comment above about the difference.
Just FYI: I am on a closed group on FB, and it doesn't appear on my profile under the groups section. I don't know if that's because of my settings or the groups. It also never made an announcement on my news feed that I had joined. And you can see who the members are, but you can't see any more information than anyone else who would find you randomly on FB, unless you specifically friend that person. So you can still remain somewhat anonymous, even if you are a part of the group.

I think if the link is PMed and it's not just everyone searching for a group name that was announced, they would pretty much end up being kind of the same thing? Unless someone happened to guess the group name? To me, I think either one is fine as long as its not a free-for-all, any random person who has never posted anything can join. Hope that makes sense.
I'd be up for this. I think private is better just bc it would be easier to stick with people who are on TB. And I agree with PPs about rules but how do you determine that? Good luck to the admins running it! :-)
I'd say make it closed to start with and if too many ransoms try to join you can always make it private after the initial influx. That makes the job of the admins much easier because they don't have to PM the link to everyone. There's not much of a privacy difference between closed and private groups on FB except whether the existence of the group is searchable. What people can see about you as an individual is more dependent on your own account privacy settings. Possible joining rules suggestion:
Post a new thread on M14 with a link to the FB group. Have people submit their join request along with a TB PM to the admin in the following format: - Facebook name - Join Date/timeframe - Post Count - when they actively joined M14 - (optional screenshot of their bump profile as "proof" and to see how many flags they have on file)
This puts the onus of work on the individuals and not the admins. If anyone is caught lying, you have an easy indication of crazy right there. The admins just need to decide what the activity/join date threshold needs to be and match the PMs to the join requests.
Personally I'm inclined to keep the joining criteria low (a month of active posting on M14, a total of 100 posts overall?). I'd hate to lose out on an awesome potential member who could contribute actively to a FB group even if they don't have as regular access to TB.
I've found with most FB groups that there's usually a huge influx of members at the outset, but the community usually establishes itself pretty quickly and the crazies are outed and things settle from there.
Or, optional High School/Sparta drama llama membership option; have all interested parties respond to above membership thread with "requested." Require the "requested" response to meet a certain love tit threshold of "sponsors" who vouch for that individual's cool kid status. Make popcorn. Grab tissues.

Closed group = searchable on FB, anyone can request membership from the search results
Private group = only visible to members, not visible to anyone else on FB, admission by an AE adding select people
Happy Endings
Edit cause today is a no nap day. Fuck.
