Finding / Choosing a Dr.

Hello everyone!

So I just found out Friday that I am pregnant with my first.      I always just had a regular Gyno, never an OBGYN.   So now I am trying to find one.   When I go on UPMC's website and use the find a doctor tool,  all the female OBGYN's in my area work out of several offices.   I chose one and called to make an appt.   Apparently she is only in the office once every couple weeks.  There are 3 doctors that work in the office near my home, and they take turns rotating between different offices.  I kind of thought I would see the same doctor every time.   Isn't that the norm ?   Should I be ok with this,  or should I try and find a doctor with only 1 office,  even if I have to travel further to get there ?

It's normal for a docs to rotate around. It's probably best if you get to meet a lot of them in the same practice, because you never know who will be on duty when your LO is born. Even if you go to a practice with a single doc, they could be on vacation or something when you deliver. So nothing is guaranteed!

@scubagirl81  Thank you      The more and more I look into this,  I am realizing that it will be ok to see more than one doctor.   Good point about the vacation thing. 

For some reason,  I just had it in my head that I would have A doctor.  Like one.  Singular.   lol....I guess I have watched too many movies/TV shows

Thank you guys for your responses,  I really appreciate it.     I looked up the other doctors that work in the office of the female dr. I chose.  They are both creepy looking old men.    UGH......ha ha ha.....I don't want someone as old as my dad down there getting all up in my hoo ha.    lmao.....oh well,  I guess when the time comes, I am not going to give a shit who is down there

No you won't care! Ha. You will want to feel comfortable with the practice also. You will know after your first appt the vibe and there are many that switch to another practice during a pregnancy. I had a great experience with my first child and the very large practice I went to. Due to insurance change, I had to change practice and will go to a different hospital. I actually like this practice even more than the other. Didn't think that was possible.

You definitely won't care! Ha. As long as you're comfortable and you have similar philosophies (for instance, if you don't want cervical checks and they're ok with that) then I'd say go for it. If not, keep looking around. I went 3 places before I settled on the Midwives at Magee. They definitely weren't the closest, but it was worth it to get the kind of care I wanted.

Sorry bump quote fail..I had more words in there but it doesn't look like they posted. I am about 20 miles NE of Pittsburgh. Near tarentum, new Kensington, Springdale, lower Burrell Area if you ever heard of any of them.
