May 2014 Moms

If you are leaving work early or quitting, when are you leaving?

In other words, if you aren't working until the end, when do you plan to take leave?

My plan was 37 weeks just because I have been down this road before I know when I was pulled at 34 weeks before for pre-e, I was more than ready to go.

  • This time im a SAHM but last year with dd i worked till37 weeks and went into labor not even a week labor.
  • I've been debating this.  I've always said I'd work until I went into labor (I did with DD), but this time I'm already taking some extra unpaid time at the end of my leave so I feel like what's another week or so if I want to leave a little early?

I'm thinking of making my last day at 39 weeks.  DD was born at 39w3d so I guess there's a chance I'll be out by 39 weeks anyway.  But then I feel like I have the flexibility to WFH full time, so what's the point in ducking out of work before baby comes?

I am due May 2, with an early C-section that will be scheduled sometime during the weeks of April 14-25.  I plan on being off starting March 28 (35 weeks).  That way I have a few weeks home before Jack arrives.

  • My last day is April 25th, I'm due May 12th.

My official maternity leave starts May 2nd, but I'm using a week of vacation to take the week before that off, because I can only transfer 5 days of vacation to next year, or I'll just loose the ones I don't use (except for the 5 I can transfer).

So I'm going off at 37 weeks, and I'll get an extra week of vacation when I go back next year. This May baby was so well timed for me!

  • i'm planning to stop work at 39 weeks, though in my company most women work pretty much up until they go into labor, inlcuding a manager in my department who was actually in labor AT HER DESK last time. she also only took 8 weeks mat leave even though we are allowed and fully paid for 12 weeks. way to set the bar, bee-otch.

  • I was planning on quitting by first week of April (due May 5) but they are transferring me onto a new account this week and I want to leave NOW. I don't want to learn a brand new account for 3 weeks just to leave, what's the point? But now we are closing on our condo this week and my husband doesn't want me to raise any flags at my job until this happens so I can't even quit right now. Is it wrong if I only give a week's notice before I quit? I'm assuming since I'm being transferred, it really shouldn't matter...

  • I was planning on starting my leave at 37 weeks on April 14th, but I'm ready to go now. I'm seriously sitting at my desk typing this while fighting back tears. I've been with my company for 4 years, and I've been treated like crap for this whole pregnancy. This may be flamable, but the only reason I'm not quitting right now is that I need my insurance for delivery and can't afford to pay for cobra. I really doubt I'll be coming back after the baby arrives.

  • Right now, it's looking like it will be either 38 or 39 weeks for me. Still up in the air though because my HR department doesn't seem to like answering questions directly. Getting them to tell me what I actually need to know has been like pulling teeth.

I work with one of these too! As for me, I started from the last day of school and counted back to see the absolute earliest day I could be done and went with that. So May 1 but it looks like LO will probably be coming early so thank God I have a little bit of room to play.
  • I've been wondering this. My plan was to work until labor, but I have been in a lot of pain this pregnancy (psd and sciatic). It's bad to the point of me being in tears daily and I am not that person. I'm going to see what my dr says since the only way I can go out early is with a medical reason. I'm almost 33 weeks now (due May 1) and I would really like to to 36-38 weeks, but I'm not sure I can make it.

  • My job only pays as disability so I have to wait til I'm pulled by the doctor. I imagine when I get closer I can just ask? I really could be done now at 32 weeks. 50 hours a week on my feet is starting to take its toll with being tired but I'll probably work til it deliver as I have no physical reasons to be done so early.
  • I just had an employee come back after 4 weeks btw!
  • I am hoping to work until my due date, May 2nd. I'm a teacher and I don't want to leave my students until I am positive they are ready for their end of course state examinations. However, IF I have to leave early, I have the option. My long-term sub is on call (he's married to a fellow teacher) and can start anytime he needs to.

  • i'm due 5/5, and my last day at work is 4/25. originally, i planned to work until i went into labor. turns out, i have some vacation days that i must take or they will be lost.

so, 1 week vacation + 6 weeks short-term disability + 6 weeks FMLA + 60 days unpaid personal leave = 5 months at home with Peanut. i haven't not had a job since i was 16, so this is a whole new concept for me.
  • Probably off by beginning of April due May 7th! I've already stopped my on the side waitressing job since last week bc the pain I was in after not worth it. Still trucking away at my other 2 jobs for now :)

  • I plan on my last day being 5/16, I'm due 5/31. I'm in a similar boat as @Peaceb0ne, I will not be returning but I can't get onto my husband's insurance until the baby is born. I'm counting the days until I don't have to come to this crap hole anymore.

  • Due May 1st. I think my last day will be April 17th. Hoping this baby comes close to his due date. DD came at 41w6d.
  • My last day is May 2nd due May 13th. Hopefully this will give me enough time to relax and get last minute stuff done.

  • May 9th is my last day of work … due May 16th.

  • I asked the NP this at my last appt and she said I could be off at 38 weeks.  My last day based on this and a previously scheduled personal day will be May 1 (due May 17).  With DS due in July and being a teacher I was done with work at 32 weeks last time, it will be interesting to see how I feel working until week 38.  I have an hour commute each way, I think that is going to be the worst part of working so long.

  • My last day is April 15th I am due May 5, I work on my feet so it's getting rough I've already cut my hours down some
  • I'm taking a week and a half off before my due date. Last day April 25, due May 8.
  • I'm thinking my last day will be April 25th, due May 22nd.  I told my Midwife that I was planning on working until 38 weeks and she said I might as well take advantage of CA disability and leave four weeks early so that is what I am planning on doing.  Last time  the OB took me out a 34 weeks, because of the stress I was under at work, and my blood pressure.

  • Last time my OB took me off at 33-34 weeks.  I feel a lot better this time, so will take it day by day.  The longest I will work is 36 weeks, which would bring me up to Easter vacation.
That way I can have some sick days to use after Easter break before I start EI.  They started inducing me at 37 w 4 d last time.

My replacement teacher is able to start at the beginning of April, so I plan to work at least until that point, but my goal is 36 weeks.  I have a 3 hour round trip commute on top of a full day on my feet teaching, so that is why I will finish then.

  • I'm going part time in April and not returning so I'll see how I feel due may7. I'm honestly done right now. My boss is very lucky I'm dedicated bc she's crap and I'm only staying so I can properly train my replacement and bc I care too much about my team. Who you work for makes all the difference....

  • EDD according to MFM and me charting is April 19th (midwives EDD is May 2nd), last day is scheduled to be April 11th. Depending on my 3/17 and then weekly appts, we'll see what they tell me to do as I'm having some pretty serious nerve pain issues.
