~*~ Toddler Check-in ~*~

Holla, mamas! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend despite DST being vile and totally wrecking Sundays... well, at least some of them

Any funny stories this week? Milestones? Challenges? Other stuff?

If you could eat just one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Re: ~*~ Toddler Check-in ~*~

  • Not much new here.  Still working slowly on potty training.  And cursing the devil that is the time change.

I would definitely choose pasta for my one meal forever choice.  With homemade sauce and plenty of parmesan cheese grated on top.  Yum!

  • Cute story: Today the weather was finally nice enough out that I could take DD to the park to play. The last time we were there in the fall she was about 16m and I had to help her get on a lot of the toys. What a difference four months make! Today she climbed up on everything all by herself. She had so much fun! She kept running around saying "I run! I run!"

I feel like I say this every week, but I think we are making more progress on weaning. The past two nights I've given DD yogurt as a bedtime snack and she hasn't asked to nurse when I put her to bed. She's just been content snuggling with a bedtime story. I'm not counting it as a win yet, but I'm hoping if I can keep this going for a couple more days we can drop the bedtime nursing for good.

QOTW: I would probably go with a pasta dish with lots of veggies, some shrimp or chicken, and a really good rosa sauce. Everything I like in one dish so I would never get bored.

  • Hey! I've been MIA for a bit but I'm hanging in there.
DS has been a piece of work these last few weeks and I'm getting close to losing it somedays. I just feel completley overwhelmed! Sorry to be a downer!

As for milestones: he's finally talking some more! He has learnt about 5 new words in the last week so that's fun!

Funny Stories: He walks around to people, puts his finger over his lips and says "shhh" over and over. I make him laugh and laugh and then all of a sudden he looks at me all serious and says "no more". It's cute.

Challenges: where do I start? Balancing work and being a mom and a wife. Sleep. Always sleep. He wakes up and screamed on and off for an hour about every other night. It's exhausting.

If I could eat one meal forever it would be chicken fajitas! They're my favourite! Or wings!

  • Any funny stories this week? She's been really into what noises/sounds animals and objects make.  If you ask her what the dog says she'll say "fart". ;)

Milestones? She ate carrots at dinner tonight!  Vegetables are a huge challenge for us so I'm so happy!

Challenges? Things are starting to get easier (knock on wood) and I think she can be reasoned with a little more now when she's having a temper tantrum.  She's starting to get a little more patient, although she still hates waiting for anything.

If you could eat just one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Sushi for sure!

We've had some 60 degree days and it's been WONDERFUL. DD loves to swing on the swings at the park and just walk around like she owns the place.

As for funny, and I'm sure DD picked this up at child care, but she's started bringing me her doll and a small quilt and asking me with much gesticulating and grunting to swaddle the doll. She then carries the doll around cooing to it and patting it on the back. I made the doll a little bed with another blanket and a basket, and DD is just as likely to throw the doll out and get in the basket herself as she is to put baby to bed.

In the past couple of days she's started saying new words, which is AWESOME. We usually give her a toy and let her play in the bathroom while we're showering, and yesterday she just stood at the door and kept saying "out"! That's her new favorite, I think.

Adjusting to the time change, really. Her naps are all screwed up and last night she didn't get to bed until almost ten, and I'm worried tonight will be a repeat.

I think I'm with the sushi mamas. I had it for the first time when DD was about a month old and now I'm hooked - thank goodness there are lots of rolls I like that are safe to eat when pregnant!

  • So, 45 degree weather in my area is considered a heat wave. People wear shorts! We took the kids out for a walk yesterday and as DD learned to walk in the dead of winter, it was the first time she was allowed to roam free outdoors and she was so thrilled! She kept running away from us gleefully when we tried to get her back inside because it was still pretty cold out. She managed to get her mittens and pants full of mud!

No major challenges other than not really interested in taking in more than a teaspoon of water from her sippy. Milestones...hmm, does being outdoors count?

Food...I love food and tend to obsess on eating a particular thing until I get sick of it or find something else addicting to nosh on. Right now, I discovered Pretzel Crisps. I could eat those all day. That and chocolate.

  • Any funny stories this week? Ben always has me laughing! One thing that particularly stands out to me though is his new way of giving kisses. He will come in for one of his big, slobbery open mouth kisses, and at the last second, he sticks his tongue out right on my mouth. Also, he loves to be "chased" around the house, laughing riotously as he looks over his shoulder to see either me or DH behind him.
Milestones?  He is saying mama on a fairly regular basis now, which is awesome! He is up to 4 words he uses regularly and properly- dada, mama, uh-oh, and baba.
Challenges? Tantrums and massive overreactions to minor things, especially diaper changes. I just picked up a copy of "Happiest Toddler On The Block" and I am hopeful this will really help out.
Other stuff? I am SO glad it is finally getting nicer out. We have been able to get Ben outside for at least 15-20 minutes the last few days, which he (and we) are loving! I can't wait until all the snow melts at the park so we can take him there. I am also looking forward to starting evening walks.
If you could eat just one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? I'm going to totally cop out and say Italian food. But if I really had to narrow it down from there, pasta. That still gives me variety, as there are about a billion ways to make/serve pasta! ;)

  • Any funny stories this week? I had a dentist appt this week and took my dd w/ my mom. another little girl was in the office abt my daughter's age and as soon as my dd saw her she said "Hiiiiiiiii! Friend!"...then they shared each other snacks and were so cute talking & playing together.  Mind you she did not know this child!  She also wld say hello to everyone else who came to check in & would even say "thank you" & "you're welcome" for them.  It was hilarious!  The ladies in the office asked if I could bring her in everyday.  :)  It makes my heart happy that she has such joy and others love to be around her.

Milestones? her vocabulary continues to astound me.  she is talking sentences now & she just turned 2!  I'm amazed every day what she knows.  her little brain is soaking in everything.

Challenges? we're about to begin taking away her paci for good.  she's only gets it at nap & bedtime.  i'm dreading this.  I've targeted May to begin potty training...one thing at a time.  She begins preschool in the fall so I thought May wld be a good time to get it going. any tips - please share!

If you could eat just one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? mac & cheese - or just cheese in general. Is cheese & wine considered a meal??? :P
