Thanks Janineb. I live in the US, but my husband works in Canada so I was wondering about it...

Doesn't it depend in which province you live? Because in Quebec we have up to 52 weeks, a part of it can be shared with the dad and he has 5 weeks he cannot "give" to the mother.

It does vary a bit province to province. I am in Ontario and have 52 weeks off as well including pregnancy leave and parental leave. (2 weeks held back) Fathers get between 35-37 weeks. (If none is used by the mother)

I won't go in to a bunch of details or the break down here but it would be a good idea for your husband to ask at work or look on the provincial website. (I know our provincial website explained everything and linked to the federal website too).

Thank you ladies.  He is there on a work permit, so I'll have him check things out.  Thank you for the information on the provincial and federal websites.
