Hi! I'll try not to make this too lengthy. I'm five weeks pregnant, I got a positive test a week ago. But now I am bleeding. It started out just a pink colored discharge (sorry tmi), turned brown, than had some blood only when I wiped, but now I there is quite a bit of blood. There are no clots but I am still worried. I can't get into the doctor until at least Monday morning. I had a mc a couple of years ago and this is how it started. But than went on to have a healthy pregnancy after, in the beginning I also had some brownish discharge. We now have a healthy little guy runing all around. So I was hoping this was just like the last pregnancy and not a mc. But the bleeding hasn't stopped and now I'm worried. It has been a day and a night. Has anyone had this happen? Have you then went on to have a healthy pregnancy? I'm not looking for anything sugar coated please. Be as blunt as possible. Thank you.
Re: Bleeding, no clots. 5 weeks pregnant. Please don't sugar coat your response.
The blunt response: When I had bleeding when pregnant with DS, the statistic I saw several places (reputable websites & in a couple of my pregnancy books) was it's a 50% chance either way.
Also, are you RH- and the dad RH+? My SIL had bleeding early on because of that, once she got the rhogam shot, the bleeding stopped.
What I'd do: Unless you are bleeding really heavily (going through a pad an hour is the generally held amount to be considered heavy) I'd sit tight, stay hydrated, put your feet up, and call your OB ASAP Monday morning. If they have a 24 hour nurse line or messaging system, I'd go ahead and call it now and let them know what's happening.
Going to the ER now, unless you are in an emergency situation like heavy bleeding, isn't going to help you or give you peace of mind. They'll take some blood, do a transvaginal ultrasound (which will probably not tell you anything at this point even if the pregnancy is healthy), tell you you're having a threatened miscarriage/abortion and tell you to call your OB. It is, to me, not worth the hassle and the stress.
The bad news is that if it is a miscarriage, there's really nothing to be done to prevent it, but going in to your doctor will let them know what is happening and they'll be able to monitor you. They'll be able to make sure that whatever happens happens safely and if you need something like a Rhogam shot, they can do that. The good news is that there are definitely women who have spotting/bleeding, even bright red bleeding, in the first tri that go on to have totally healthy pregnancies.
Hoping for the best for you.

All women are different though. Some women spot and everything is ok. The wait is hard, but if it is a miscarriage there is nothing you can do to stop it. Your doctor will be the only one that can tell you what is going on when you see them.
