3rd Trimester

What would you pack for the hospital?

My induction is tomorrow, and we have the obvious stuff like toiletries and clothes for all of us. I also packed a swaddle blanket, and stuff for me to do. My question is, would you bring any extra stuff? I was considering bringing my laptop, and possibly the boppy pillow since I'm EBF. We will be there from Sunday at 4pm until at least Tuesday I'm sure. It all depends on when he shows up! I don't want to bring my bathrobe cause it's white and the only 1 I have. I only have 1 pair of slippers, too, and I don't wanna ruin them. Some people say that you should bring your own blankets or pillows, but I don't think I want to risk it all getting dirty.

Re: What would you pack for the hospital?

  • I say yes to boppy.  It took me a little while to get the hang of using it, but then I could not nurse without it for several weeks.  We had breastfeeding difficulties and it was a total lifesaver because it could hold the baby in the right place so I had two hands to configure the baby-boob connection.

  • If you're planning on an epidural, then I'd bring some form of entertainment.  Inductions can take a while.  If you're planning on natural pain management you probably won't be using your laptop/playing cards/watching movies, etc.

  • I hate having to pack much in and out, so I just do the toiletries, clothes, book, camera and phone.  The pillows aren't my favorite, but I don't sleep well in the hospital anyway.  One thing I did really like though was slipper socks; I love the short ones (below ankle) with the non-slip soles.  And if you're picky about food, I'd pack a favorite snack or two.  Oh, and stool softeners!  Or at least have them at home, life saver for me that helped me relax about that first poop after.

  • They gave me cozy socks at the hospital, so don't worry about the slippers. Nursing tank tops, your toiletries (that first shower after delivery is the best!), laptop & power cord, camera, snacks for after. I was induced with my second and it only took 6.5 hours - not all inductions are long! Hopefully yours progresses nicely!

  • I didn't take a robe, but I did have a zip up hoodie and was very glad that I did. Really I was a pretty light packer, just toiletries and two outfits for me. I wore the hospital gowns at night. I left LO in the hospital clothes until it was time to go home too.
