Question about post O bloodwork

So it looks like I ovulated this week for the first time in maybe 6 years. (yay!) I have my annual check-up with my obgyn on Wed. and I will be 8 dpo. We were going to use this appointment to talk about moving on to an RE, but since it looks like I finally ovulated, I'm not sure what we will discuss.

My question is: I've heard of having 7 dpo bloodwork done. I've been reading that this is for a progesterone level check. Should I ask about having this done at Wednesday's appt, or is this something I need to schedule in advance? See my siggy for background info if that helps. Thanks!

I would probably ask about it at least. In the middle of one of my anovulatory cycles, I was 90% sure I had O-ed. I happened to be getting other b/w done at the RE so they checked my progesterone. I don't remember exactly what it was, but somewhere between 1 and 3, so they were able to say that I either didn't ovulate or I had weak ovulation. It made me feel more confident that it was time to move forward with other testing. (And I didn't lose my mind when I never got my period.)

I wanted to add that you shouldn't need to schedule it in advance. Unless you live in a tiny town with no lab, your doctor shoulder able to call in the lab (or give it to you in writing) and you should be able to go to the lab site (if it's not in the same building) and pretty much walk in and do it. Unfortunately you wouldn't probably get the results that day, so you wouldn't get to talk to your doctor about them in person, but that should be OK.

When they call you with the results I wouldn't just accept normal/abnormal as a result, I'd make sure to ask exactly what my numbers were. OB's aren't always great at interpreting things like this it seems.

@lebradford Thanks for all the helpful info! I plan on getting all my lab numbers from them this week from my previous testing when I was diagnosed with pcos, too.
