My son is 11 months. I was hoping on getting some advice from you mommas on getting rid of the bottle. He still has a hard time with the sippy so I'm obviously paranoid. Any advice? TIA
My LO never did well with a sippy, but went straight to a straw cup. For some reason it was easier for him to learn that. Once he got the hang of it, we started offering milk in the cup in the morning, and after a few weeks, switched out the night bottle for a cup as well. Every few days we bumped the bedtime milk 10 minutes earlier so he now gets it 30-40 min before bed as the start of our bedtime routine. It helped to warm the milk up a bit too - now he'll do it room temp, but at first he would only take it warm, like his bottles were.
Agree with PP - we skipped sippy's and went right to the straw cups.
We started having daycare offer her "lunch time" milk in a straw cup around 10 months. (We introduced it at home at 6 months when we started BLW.) She took it some days, but not others. At 11.5 months I was like "I'm sick of cleaning and putting bottles together, and I know she is completely able to use the straw." So I put the bottles away and that was that. Daycare said she never batted an eye.
I know it's probably not that easy for everyone, but babies are pretty smart and figure things out quickly if you're consistent
We haven't given up completely yet. We used to give four bottles per day, now we are down to 2. He has a huge appetite so he really doesn't need them. But it's really just a selfish thing on my part because I love the snuggle time....
Anyways, we will drop the morning bottle first, then bedtime. He is dying for his morning bottle so he will have to go straight from the crib to the highchair to get through this probably.
We gave half in a bottle and half in a sippy. We used sippy's with soft spouts. We would give her the bottle first, then the sippy. She realized it was similar to the bottle and drank it. Day two we put a small amount in the bottle, then most in the sippy, same thing happened. Day 3, we tried all in the sippy and it worked. She had never drank from a bottle since. She was 12 months when this happened.
