What time is bedtime?

I'm trying to get an idea of when everyone puts their LO to bed.  Lately, DS has been really tired around 6 so we've been putting him to bed between 6-6:30. I feel like that is so early, but I'm taking my cues from him. He only has one good nap a day and cat naps a couple of times during the day. Last night he slept from 6-1 and then 1:45-7.  What time does your LO go to bed for the night?  TIA!!

Re: What time is bedtime?

  • Around 7-7:30. I would be open to earlier but it just works out that way with my oldest and DHs work schedule. It's hard to get him down any sooner.

  • Search the board, I think there was a post that answers your question last week or so!
  • Loading the player...
  • Nothing is set right now bc some nights he really fights going to sleep. Anytime between 8-10 is bedtime.

But if your LO is sleeping that great, I wouldn't change anything.

  • I consider bedtime around 9:30/10. She will eat around 7:30 or 8 then sleep until 6:30
  • DD will be 6 weeks old on Monday and has her last feeding at 10pm.  Sometimes DH wakes her up to eat at that time... I nurse her around 8pm and put her to bed, and then DH does the first feed with a bottle around 10pm.  If she doesn't wake up herself, he wakes her up.  She then usually makes it to 3-4am and I'll nurse her then.

  • DD goes to sleep between 7-8 after her bath and massage. She will wake up around 3 and then again at 7. This week she's been getting fussy around 6 so I just to with it and start our routine then. What baby wants, baby gets!
  • Whenever he falls asleep...he usually eats and goes down between 9:30 and 10:30, but sometimes wakes again around midnight. I guess we're running behind on the routines over here :(

    Usually around 10 pm.

  • We cosleep and go to bed at the same time. DD is 8 weeks and we start getting ready for bed at 10 and she's usually asleep by 10:30pm. She sleeps in a RnP next to our bed. We are hoping to transition to her crib this week and hopefully work on getting her to bed earlier. Hoping for an 8-8:30 bedtime, but I just listen to the boss!

  • We start getting ready for bed around 7:30 and LO is asleep between 8 and 8:30. It seems to be getting earlier now that I'm back at work.

    This exactly...
  • He's been going down around 730-830.

He fell asleep at 6 tonight. I'm hoping he wakes up soon and doesn't decide to do a 6 hour stretch

  • Wow so jealous of some of these sleeping schedules. My LO goes to bed at about 10. He then sleeps til 1 then 4 then 7 or 8. I'd love to get an earlier bedtime and only one night wake up by the time in back at work :)

  • @kiki1978 I used the search box and found "Bedtime & Routine" on Feb 8, but looks like you've got some great feedback on here now!
  • Bedtime? What is that?
He will fall asleep when I go, usually around 10.  He might fall asleep in his swing between 9-10, but usually he fusses/cries between 7-10.  It seems to be when his reflux pain is at its worst.  I would love to get him down at 7 so we can have some one on one time with DS1 before he goes to bed.

  • Oz usually takes a power nap around 6 and goes down for the night between 8 and 9.  (and when I say go down for the night .... I mean he still wakes up every 3 hours to eat).

  • @mrsjenni Today my pedi suggested waking for a feeding at 11 or so and maybe then she'd go until morning. We usually get from 9ish to 2 or 3 which is great. I'm hesitant to mess with a good thing but I'm going back to work soon and I'm still pretty tired. In the motn DD does not go right back to sleep and I'm usually up 1.5-2 hours. How much does DH feed her? Do you have any tips?

  • We start bedtime anywhere from 6:30-7:30, depending on his day and his cues. Here's a couple of sleep guidelines that may be helpful.

    Sleep Timeline

  • Between 10 and 11. I usually give LO an extra two ounces of formula at his last feeding at night, swaddle then rock him to sleep. I've been getting *knock on wood* 7-8 hour stretches of sleep with this "routine" so it works for us right now!

  • DD will be two months old on Sunday, and we're still getting the hang of things. She has been eating between 830-900, and that's when I put her in the bassinet or crib. She's still eating every 3-4 hours at night. I will admit that we're not on a super tight schedule yet, but that may change since I'm going back to work in a week.

  • She naps late in the day and I'm having a hard time getting it earlier. Bedtime feeding usually starts around 9 or 10 but bedtime doesn't happen until 10 - midnight, when she finally falls asleep. But we sleep in late. And by that I mean from midnight until 9 or 10am, she wakes for a feeding every two to three hours. Think I need to try to move everything back a few hours. Maybe the time change Saturday night will help (or make it even worse!).

  • This little girl will not go down before midnight. She takes a quick power nap around 8-9 then she's up for the long haul. For the last 4 nights she gets a bottle around 9, plays for a good while, diaper change, then another bottle around 11, and then we wait her out!! I've been putting her in the RnP, where she sleeps next to the bed, and she fights going to sleep for at least 20 minutes. Once she's down age typically gives us a good stretch though. It's basically whenever she decides is a good fine for sleep!

  • Around 9-930, but I am slowly trying to move it up (15 min every couple of days). My ultimate goal is 7 pm though. I still have a ways to go.
  • Thanks everyone!

  • Anywhere between 8-9:30. Usually will wake around 2-3am for a feeding but for past few days. He's been sleeping till 5am. Than will eventually go back to bed till about 9am
  • Umm, is it bad that we have no set routine and I haven't really thought about it? Part of the problem is DS has an umbilical granuloma which will need a second silver nitrate treatment so we haven't been able to bathe him yet. He's been napping from around 7:30 or so until around 9:30 and the we usually head off to bed and he nurses until we both fall asleep. I usually wake up during the Tonight Show and swaddle and transition him to the RnP where he sleeps until around 3 and then he comes into bed to nurse and sleep for the rest of the night. He will usually then sleep until next feeding Around 6.

I'm with you. I didn't even know people really had a routine until I read this. Abby has different times for naps all day that bedtime is tricky. She naps a lot at night so I don't know when to really count the start if bedtime. I'm home from work another 2 months so I haven't started anything like a solid routine yet. Bedtime right now is when she falls asleep and then I do. :)

  • Last feeding is somewhere between 9:30 and 10;30. I'd love for her to go to bed earlier but I doubt I'd actually go to bed when she did and I also don't mind the later bed time right now. I've got time between now and August to get her to bed earlier.

DS usually takes one more little catnap from 6-7pm. Then it's either bath time right away or getting ready for bed around 730ish. He mostly falls asleep around 9pm.
Edit- posted before done of course
  • I have no idea. My LO is 5 weeks 2 days and still has no predictable schedule. I THOUGHT we had a good thing going, for about a week, where he was in bed by 9:30, woke up around 2:30-3:30 and then went back to sleep until about 6:30-7:30. Apparently he didn't agree because the past few days he's slept all day and been awake all night.
