At my Ultrasound two weeks ago, I was told Baby A had "abnormal vasculature" in her umbilical cord. The Radiologist at my Ultrasound today explained it's most likely Persistent Right Umbilical Vein, which is a pretty rare anomaly, where the right umbilical vein doesn't disappear like it normally does. Normally when this happens, there is further testing done to check for other anomalies (especially cardiac, gastric and chromosomal). I have a fetal echo scheduled for next Friday for both babies, and my OB is considering having us do genetic testing. The research I've read online seems that any associated anomalies are relatively rare, and if none are found, prognosis is pretty good. I'm still a little worried, obviously, and wondering if anyone else has heard of this diagnosis or has any personal experience with it? Thanks, and good luck to everyone else today!
