Pregnant after IF

Question from IF -- BFP mentioned. Anyone have experience with high hcg levels?

I did a FET of 2 - 3 day embryos on 2/18. I got a + HPT on 6 dt 3dt.
My first beta was 13dp3dt. It was 1389. on 15dp3dt I had a scan and repeat blood. Scan showed 1 g sac and hcg rose to 4553. I have read that high hcg levels can be an indicator of down syndrome.
Also, my gestational age was 4 weeks 2 days the day of the first blood. But the nurse said I was actually 4 weeks 6 days because they go from LMP and not the day of the transfer. Has anyone else heard of this?

Re: Question from IF -- BFP mentioned. Anyone have experience with high hcg levels?

  • Congrats!! My levels were pretty high (not quite as high as yours but higher than the average posted here) and my RE's nurse hinted that it probably was twins but I am carrying a singleton.
I also read at the time about the HCG being an indicator of Downs but as PP mentioned, that is later on in your pregnancy and in combination with other markers. I would try and not worry about it now- it probably just means that you have a very strong little bean in there (or two!) I know easier said than done, but keep busy and try to enjoy this time!
Also, try and remember that "most" people don't know their HCG levels at this point or have had an u/s yet so I almost feel that we have to much info to stress over. Odds are greatly in your favor that all is okay!
    Congrats again!!!

@phillyJ33 and @thosethreewords, Thank you both so much. It is so hard not to stress especially after going through a m/c and IF for so long. I know I just need to sit back and enjoy it but it's so hard!

  • Hey girl! I had rather high levels all along too. Was sure I was having twins.

Just an FYI that may make you feel better. . . high beta levels can be one single indicator for DS, but not early on. High beta levels at an NT scan are one indicator they use. By 10 weeks or before, beta levels start to drop, so someone who has high betas past 12 weeks mean those numbers aren't dropping.

The only reason I know this is because the exact same thing was on my mind. RELAX. My beta numbers were always about the Triplet average and everything worked out great.

  • My betas weren't high initially (189 and 401) but when I had my NT scan, my risk increased because my HCG levels were so high. We ended up having the Harmony test run to get a better idea of what to prepare for and everything came back fine. Since then I've talked to a few family friends who had high HCG at their NT scan and their babies were just fine. Try not to worry, a high HCG level alone isn't necessarily anything to worry about, especially early on.

  • I don't have experience with the high HCG levels, but FX that everything is just fine for you!  As for LMP, that's bogus.  Your cycle gets so messed up during IF treatments, LMP is really meaningless when all is said and done unless you schedule an FET exactly 14 days after you get AF.  You should take your transfer date, subtract however old your embryo was, then add 266 (280-14) days....that should get you to your EDD :-)
