1st Trimester

How has this pregnancy differed from previous one(s)?

Just curious how everyone's second (or third) round has differed from previous pregnancies. If this is your third time, do you think gender made a difference in your experience? I'm six weeks. My last pregnancy with my daughter, I felt and looked great! Literally no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever, glossy hair, clear skin. This time around I look and feel like crap! I am breaking out all over, bloated, and I am dizzy and nauseous pretty much all day every day! Crossing fingers that a little boy is the source of all this trouble... How are you ladies faring compared to last time?

Re: How has this pregnancy differed from previous one(s)?

  • This is my fourth pregnancy.  My first three I had m/s that caused me to be miserable for about 16 weeks and I lost weight, and was just hating life.  This time, no m/s at all.  Nausea every now and then, but nothing that I can't breathe through.  I'm also not having any aversions to meat or really anything for that matter.

  • I'm having the same symptoms and cravings but they're to different degrees. With my first I was horribly nauseous for weeks 7 and 8 but then everything was fine, for this one I have had mild nausea since week 5 (at 10 weeks) but it's manageable. And the tiredness and headaches come and go as before. Hoping the headaches subside more quickly this time. Last pregnancy I was dead to the world at 2 pm every day until 18 weeks.

With DS, I was nauseated, but I never threw up. This time around, I've thrown up more times than I can count. I'm having most of the same food aversions that I had with DS, but with a bunch of extra random ones thrown in. With DS, I wanted nothing to do with chicken, but I couldn't get enough beef. This time around, I basically don't want any meat at all unless it's "hidden" in something like a casserole or chili.

Agree with PP that different symptoms aren't necessarily indicative of a different sex. A good friend of mine carried her two older girls exactly the same: same symptoms, same "build," same everything. Then for her third, everything was totally different. She looked different, felt different, and craved different things. Baby wouldn't cooperate for them to find out the sex at the anatomy scan, but they were assuming it was a boy based on how she felt. Baby #3 was another girl.

  • Yeah, I figured *sex* had nothing to do with anything! but I'm still going to be hopeful ;)
  • The sex has no bearing on symptoms

I have two sons and my pregnancies couldn't have been more different. With my first, I had horrible morning sickness until I was well into my second trimester and was hospitalized twice because I couldn't keep fluids down. With my second, I didn't know I was pregnant until 11 weeks due to an IUD and had no symptoms beyond feeling tired. This time, I have morning sickness again but it seems to subside by the late afternoon where as last time, I had no relief.

  • My first two pregnancies (boy and girl) were almost identical. No morning sickness, yummy food cravings, and no major symptoms. I gained 55 pounds with both and loved every minute of it, lol. I've had morning sickness, major food aversions, and sensitive smell this time around. Based on my experience it's not related to gender. No clue what it's related to, though!
  • My first two were pretty similiar. Slight nausea that lasted until 9 weeks along with exhaustion. Gained 20 lbs with both, carried the same, etc. both boys. This time, I may be slightly more nauseous, but that's it so far. I'm expecting it to be imiliar, but who knows! GL

  • This is pregnancy #3 for me (1 kiddo & 1 miscarriage). So far, all 3 have been pretty much the same: I feel completely normal. If it wasn't for the pee-stick and missing AF, I would have no idea I was pregnant. The only symptom I have is that I'm constantly hungry.

  • This pregnancy has been completely different for me. The first time around I didn't have any symptoms, clear skin, etc. This time I have had MS like crazy, been exhausted, acne, bloated, almost anything.

Why would you get your hopes up for something that is already decided? Just so you can be disappointed if it isn't your optimum sex?

With DD, I had zero symptoms. No nausea, heartburn, aches, pains, etc.
We are team green with this LO, so don't know the sex, but I had hyperemesis, bad heartburn, ulnar nerve issues, etc.
I am certainly not hoping for any sex, nor do I think symptoms have anything to do with sex.

  • With my first I had no symptoms at all, the pregnancy was a breeze until I developed pre eclampsia.

With the second I had morning sickness for a few weeks, breast tenderness, and cramping... But it was all gone by 7-8 weeks. I also developed pre eclampsia though it was less severe...

With this one I'm miserable. Constant morning sickness, extreme fatigue, my breasts hurt so bad it kills to wear a bra. More RLP than before. Just over all, very crappy thus far. Hopefully once out of first trimester it'll all be nice and wonderful.

First was a boy, second a girl, this one don't know yet but mommy instincts tell me boy.

  • This is my 2nd, and I feel better this pregnancy as far as morning sickness goes, but my skin is breaking out like crazy. I didn't have that with my daughter. I was much sicker with my daughter as well.
