Doppler and Movement Qs

I promise I searched for this before posting! I have a question for doppler users because I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in my search.

With twins, what has been your experience (or dr.'s experience) in finding 2 distinct hbs with a doppler? I used one with my singleton DS and was pretty much a pro at it by 2nd tri. I found his hb at 9w and was able to find a hb yesterday at 8w2d. It was right at 145 so I am positive I know what I was hearing was a hb. I guess I am measuring big which is why I found it sooner? I looked for another and couldn't find anything. I am not really worried yet, per se, just curious I guess. I have severe PgAL anxiety when I am pregnant and sometimes my doppler was the only thing that enabled me to sleep during my last pregnancy. I *think* I will be fine only hearing one - for a while that is.

Also, when you begin to feel movement, can you tell who is who?

I am sorry, I am a nut case some days...

TIA!

Re: Doppler and Movement Qs

  • I have never used a home doppler....and the first time the doctors used it on me was at 16 weeks...but every time I have had it used, they were able to find both babies...one is lower and on my left, one is higher and on my right...they normally have slightly different heart rates...but honestly, they dart away alot so the doctors have to catch them....

I think I can tell who is who on movement, but will be interested to see if they are in the same place at our growth scan next week as they were at our AS 4 weeks ago....because if they moved, then I have no clue who is who!

The bolded made me LOL! I can only imagine!

As far as the doppler goes, I figured as much. I remember my DS running from the doppler too, I am just hoping it is too early to hear hb#2.

    Thanks for your response!

  • I always thought it was easy enough because once I found one hb, if I moved the doppler even an inch I would lose it, so I knew when I was finding another one 6 inches over that they definitely weren't the same.
  • I've never used a doppler and my OB always does a quick US to check the HBs rather than  a doppler with her multiple pregnancies (I have a growth scan at the MFM regularly) just to be sure she is getting the babies and not duplicating.

I have a singleton and I think I really started feeling movement around 17/18 weeks (it was like 22 with DD)

  • My ob has had no luck finding the hb with my twins, they move too much and kick at the Doppler when she tries :)
  • I I could tell who was moving based a on where the movement was. Twin A stayed low and Twin B stayed just under my ribs.

It always took my Doctor a while to find the 2 heart beats on the Doppler.
  • I was at the Dr today - I am just over 18 weeks and she could only find one with the doppler so she used the sonogram to see them/check HB. She said its really hard with twins until they are much bigger and in "their" place.
    It's a boy and a girl!
