I live way out in the boonies. Like drive a half an hour when you run out of milk and an hour when you go into labor kind of boonies! SO DH and I are taking a Saturday day class at the hospital, meet the peds, tour the birthing floor, BF class, talking about CPR (I'm already certified), and just general things.
I count on the internet and do so much research it's not funny.
I'm not planning on any. My DH works swing shift so he will miss parts of any. That's kind of a waste.
The hospital I'm delivering at has a lactation specialist who I've heard is wonderful. My practice also has someone staffed to help.
After discussing it with my girlfriends I think I'll pass on classes. When I'm in pain I like to handle it my own way without being told what to do. DH knows to leave me the hell alone when I'm hurting.
We will take a baby CPR refresher course since I haven't been re certified in 3 years.
I read a lot and have spent lots of time around babies, but I think the classes will be great for DH. It will make it feel more real. He has never changed a diaper and is eager to learn, but he doesn't spend all day on message boards or read voraciously on the subject like I do.
We also signed up for a workshop on preparing your relationship for baby.
Were taking a 5 week birth class that includes hospital tour and all that jazz and a breastfeeding course. I have to be cpr certified to immunize and i expire this year so i go in april through work and they do infants even though we cant actually shoot them. Score.
We had to go through CPR and Car seat training before leaving the NICU for Charlotte but that's it. I have no intention of any further classes for this one.
We took the hosp birthing class, helpful to know their procedures and such, but really the interwebs taught me everything else I needed to know and is free. I like learning, I don't like wasting my time in ineffective classes.
We took a prenatal class and that was it. There were six 2 hour classes and it was very natural-based. There was a class devoted to breastfeeding in it, as well. It was super helpful, but that was all we did and I think it was enough.
Kinda just going with the whole idea that women bore children before classes were available approach. Hoping my instincts will guide me thru labor/delivery but was thinking about buying a book on newborn care just for the basics. Any suggestions?
Our hospital offers 8 different classes. We are going to do birthing, infant care, breastfeeding, and infant CPR. It's only $150 for all 4 classes and DH is uncomfortable around babies so we feel it is worth it.
Taking a hypnobirthing class, CPR, and infant care class. The infant care class is solely for DH. He insists he doesn't need a class, but I beg to differ. He thinks you can place an infant in the bottom of the tub. I tried explaining to him that laying them in a cold, hard tub isn't a good idea, they'll be screaming their head off, etc. He thinks a $15 baby tub is a waste of $.
Yeah, honey, you're taking the effin class. I have 5 younger brothers and sisters, and a DD, so I don't really need it.
He also holds babies very fearfully, like he is going to drop or break them.
