My 24-month-old does not jump. Someone told me that he should be jumping at this point. He goes on his tippy toes and tries to jump and he understands the word, but he is not able to get both feet off the ground yet. Is this in the normal range?
My DD did not start actually jumping (both feet off the ground) until 2.5. We practiced jumping off things that were low to start to get the idea of it. Then she started doing gymnastics and she figured it our pretty quickly after that. I wouldn't worry at 24 mos.
I personally, based only on anecdote, think this is something based on "exposure." Our daycare had those mini trampolines on the playground, and my son's class was all jumping on the early side. All of his similarly aged friends who don't have access to daily trampolining were not jumping at 2.
We could jump two feet off the ground before 2 but only on the trampoline at gymnastics or the toddler trampoline at daycare. She just now started jumping two feet off the ground everywhere else. We knew she could she just wouldn't do it. She will not jump off of furniture or over anything even if we ask her to. I don't know if it is a fear of falling or she just knows you don't jump off of chairs, couches, etc. We won't even jump off the apparatus at gymnastics unless she holds our hands.
LOL, when I first read this, I thought, OMG, your child can jump two feet in the air!? That's crazy! But then I realized you meant BOTH feet. Ha.
DD is 2.5 and just got the hang of jumping a month or two ago. She's still not very good at it. I agree with PP that it's just about exposure or trying. It never really occurred to me to teach her to jump, and neither we nor her daycare have a trampoline, so . . .

my twins are almost 24 months (bday is 3 weeks away!) and dd can jump and often jumps to wherever she wants to go, ds can't. he thinks he can, though and it's hilarious. he'll bend his knees as if he's going to take a huge leap and just springs up without leaving the ground and says, "jump!"
Since every child develops differently, it's better to consider whether the child is hitting general benchmarks versus specific. If he can get on his tiptoes, run without falling, climb - those are indicative of normal development.
Re: Jumping?
My kid who is a bit over 2.5 couldn't jump for the longest time either. Then one day about a month ago she got it perfectly.
I wouldn't worry about it.
