Please help, remedies for m/s???

I feel like I've tried it all.  Crackers before getting out of bed.  Staying hydrated.  Eating small meals throughout the day.  Taking Tums.  UGHHH NOTHING HELPS!!

I don't have that puking-every-day morning sickness THANK GOD!! But I do have a constant-hangover morning sickness (I swear, it's making me to never want to drink after this pregnancy because I don't want to chance feeling this way ever again any time soon!!!!)

I see my doctor for my first prenatal appointment tomorrow morning and will be making this my top priority on "What can I do? What can I take?" for it.

In the mean time, I have a full day at work ahead of me, does anyone have anything I haven't tried? I'm really up for anything right now :/

  • Try lemon water or ginger tea. They both helped me especially the ginger tea. It's also easy to make. Peel the ginger root and slice it into thin slices. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. Once it is boiling, add the ginger. Cover it and reduce to a simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the tea. Add honey and lemon to taste if you want. Good luck!

  • @doublefun12 I've been so nervous to try the ginger tea because I'm not much of a fan of ginger tea, and was afraid it'd make me gag.  But I never thought about adding honey. Thank you!

  • I've been singing this remedies praises since I found it 4 days ago. 1/2 a unisom at bedtime + 50 mg of vitamin B6. I asked my OB if it was alright and he said it was fine. There is also a Rx that is the same combination of drugs called Dicelgis in the US and Diclectin in Canada (don't know where your from). You should ask your doc about it. It is supposed to be safer than Zofran but just as effective. Hope this helps!

  • Anything peppermint... I was also worried that ginger tea would make me gag because even the thought was enough to make me sick! I drank ginger ale on occasion which also helped. Anything sour, frozen fruit and a Wendy's frosty every now and then!

  • I take one Unisom at night, and it has been a godsend. I'm actually taking half a pill now to try and wean off of it.

But the Unisom kept my puking at bay, plus the constant nausea/headache went away. Also, I sleep better, so I'm only up to pee 2 maybe 3 times. Without it I was getting up to pee 4-6 times in the night.

  • Ha. Awe poor thing. Ginger does NOT go well for me. The seasick bands help a lot, preggie pops, and trying really hard to get some protein in before bed. Carbs sound easy, but it's a temporary fix, proteins like peanut butter will keep you feeling better for longer.
  • Sea bands work great for me, as long as I put them on before I am super nauseous. I also bought preggo pops off amazon... I don't know if they are really doing anything, they just taste like candy. Worth a shot though.

  • None of the things mentioned have helped me ! I am currently taking up to 8 diclecton a day as prescribed by my doctor but I still have the constant morning puke sickness a feeling all day! I can't cook dinners, I eat the same things a day it's horrible . I was hoping for a smooth pregnancy but this baby is tormenting its momma already!
  • Sorry you feel that way! :( I had it for a few weeks in the beginning but now it's an absolute distant memory. I keep thinking now, I guess it wasn't that bad. But then I think back to laying on the couch saying, if anyone touches me I will puke. That went on for a while. Hard to function when that was a constant feeling. even when I woke up at 2 am it was there. Never threw up either, but constant hung over feeling. Hopefully it'll be gone before you know it. Hugs!
  • Thank you ladies! Lots and lots of ideas I never knew about, thank you thank you thank you! I hope one of them is a fix for me!

  • I agree with a few PP....the unisom and B6 combination did it for me. I am just about 11 weeks now so it could be getting better because I'm almost out of 1st tri but I haven't puked in 3 days (knock on wood!!!!) and the nausea has gone down considerably. It's worth a try and my OB said it's one of the only remedies clinically proven to work! Good luck - it will get better!!

  • Another vote for unisom and b6. It didn't work immediately for me, but seemed like after a few days of it, it made a difference. Also eating protein before bed made the whole next day easier. My go-to is a heated up lenders bagel with pb and a glass of milk. Good luck - hope it gets easier for you soon!
  • Ughhh I'm at twelve weeks and I still feel hungover every day. I've tried just about everything but nothing works so I just deal with it. Your doctor can prescribe zofran which is supposed to stop the nausea, maybe you'll have better luck than me.
  • I tried the dissolvable zofran this morning because I'm just so tired of feeling sick all the time and I was amazed at how well/fast it worked!  I had it from a battle with kidney stones around Christmas and had never tried it because the nausea went away with the pain.

  • The peanut butter trick helped me a little, especially for in the morning when I'm wanting nothing to do with food.  I got some peanut butter with honey in it and just put it on toast.  Fills me up and I don't get queasy.  It's not an all day remedy but it helps me at least get moving in the morning.

  • I found having a second breakfast helped. Usually a toasted buttered bagel or English muffin. Also plain salted Doritos.

  • Mine hits any time of day. Basically, I had to figure out what my triggers were for each pregnancy and then avoid them. My last one was meat (even the smell) and protein in general, but I wanted sweets SO BAD. I tried to avoid eating anything protein-filled for breakfast, but instead had vanilla yogurt with berries or oatmeal with maple syrup. It satisfied the craving and kept the upchucks at bay. This time around, it's the opposite. I can't handle sweets. The thought makes me ill. I want savory foods and protein. Breakfast is plain Cheerios. I avoid sweetened foods (with the exception of ginger ale) and eat more veggies and seasoned stuff. I haven't been sick in a couple of days since figuring it out. I still get a bit queasy if I eat too much or if I have too much food that's fatty/greasy, but other than that I'm okay. I also used ginger Altoids and Preggy Pops/Drops. Those seemed to help when I got hit with a wave of nausea out of nowhere.
  • peppermint tea for a while until i hit 7 weeks.. then i was throwing up EVERYTHING for days and getting super dehydrated so i got some zofran.  I probably would have ended up with an IV in the hospital if i didn't get it.  i wish i would have gotten it sooner so i would have had it when that week of hell began (of course it was on a friday night so I suffered until monday). at this point i am not really ever nauseous but throw up suddenly maybe once a week.  feels like quite a victory!

Hope you don't get it as bad for me but I would say prepare yourself in case you do!

    Thanks for this useful post!
  • I hate to say it, but I tried every single medication, food, product and kooky ritual and I STILL threw up 10x a day and ended up losing a good percentage of my body weight before it was all over. Minor relief for me was the unisom/b6 combo, lay down in bed, and let a fan blow on me. This in no way got rid of my nausea. However, it DID put me to sleep and allowed me a few hours of relief that way.
  • Sea bands!  They helped me through the first pregnancy and I've pulled them out already for this one.

In my experience, when I had/have the general feeling-hung-over-morning-sickness, I can feel 100% better with Sea Bands.  When I had the throwing-up-in-the-20-minutes-it-took-me-to-shower-morning-sickness (i.e., the time that I had to take the Sea Bands off to shower), they would reduce the nausea to the point of feeling hungover.  That's when I would take Unisom (which doesn't put me to sleep.  I seem immune from the sleepiness effects of Unisom/Benadryl/etc.).

    Good luck to you!
