This is my first BMB so I'm not sure what to expect but I seriously can't deal with this crap for the next two months.

I'm very aware little one may or may not be on the way. It being my first hearing news like that just makes it all real. The fact the it could be tomorrow, 2 weeks or even a month...I'm very aware. It's the fact the you wait so long to hear your dilated it just all seems real especially when doctors told me if never conceive. Just feeling excited! Nobody can take that away.

I'm sorry OP- I'm incredibly cranky today and everything is pissing me off. I am glad you've had a healthy pregnancy and I can understand where you are coming from in your excitement.

I agree! I'm so tired of all the negativity! FTMs get excited about the small things (I'm a FTM) and shouldn't get bashed just for wanting to share! Everyone should know that! If you don't want to read it/see it then don't open it- now that's a novel idea!! Didn't your mother ever tell you if you don't have something nice to say then don't say anything at all?

I'm not trying to be mean and I'm not looking to start a fight here- so please let's be mature and not post snarky comments about how you think I'm not a regular, don't post, etc, etc. I read most everything that gets posted, comment when I feel my advice is valid (which is not a lot being as I'm a FTM) don't post much because usually my questions are answered by another thread and don't want to be slammed for a repeat post! I love this board and I really enjoy most all of you who post here- it keeps me very entertained! I am just over the rudeness and over people thinking they are better than others, like they have seniority or something!

I would have wanted to share that too if i found out i was 1 cm dilated!! even though it might not mean anything, it still means you are getting closer to the end and its exciting!!! i am excited for you and i hope things keep progressing along smoothly for you!! its too bad that some people are not as excited about the little things after having one or more kids...but from a FTM i will be just as excited when i am 1 cm dilated because its new and fun!!!

It does make it feel real, especially as a FTM. I can't help but wonder if every pain will be the start of labor and it's not my 1st...Good luck! Prayers for a full term healthy baby and speedy delivery!

Don't lump me in with the rest of the FTMs, I'm a realist.
I still hate the term FTM, I never really know if I count or not.

I see excitement for FTM's but really it doesn't mean anything and most of the time just leads to frustration when you are still only 1 or 2 cm at 40 weeks. 

But honestly, I wouldn't even want to start dilating right now, its still early.

Give me a break. I'm a FTM too and I feel absolutely no need to update the internet on the status of my cervix dilation. No need at all.

FTM here too - and I would (will) be excited as well.  It's a sign of positive progression in your pregnancy, as well as a sign that the end (no matter how far away) is relatively near.

OP - how exciting. 

I can see this argument from both sides. Progress, any progress, towards not being pregnant anymore is EXCITING (amiright!?!?!?!). However; I think we all know that 1cm means squat. I get so frustrated when doctors give false hope by way of dilation. 

We will all dilate and we will all eventually be unpregnant. :P

Sorry I was not meaning to lump anyone together and I would hope that everyone is excited whether you are a FTM or having your 10th one! I just notice it being directed more towards the FTMs I guess! I just get tired of it all.
I, personally have gone insane and photo documented EVERYTHING pretty much during my pregnancy- from doing the registry, to putting the stroller together, to going to mommy/daddy classes,etc because I am just so excited and I would have liked to have shared some not all of that with you all but didn't, due to not wanting the flack from others about how "I'm the only one going through it" etc. etc. No hard feelings- just would appreciate a little bit of courtesy from time to time!

I have been 5cm dilated for 2 weeks. It's exciting but don't get your hopes up that it means anything.

Well I would find that exciting too. It just means your one step closer! I'm a STM and if I was told I was dilated then I would probably be excited, as well.

I'm a third time mom and found out was 1cm the other day. It is exciting cause your day is coming! It is disappointing that some can be so jumpy to make snide remarks just remember not all of us our like that : ). Enjoy your baby waiting and feel free to make a big deal about it! This is exciting!!!!!!

Dilation is progression but it isn't always positive. for ex. dilating significantly at 20 weeks isn't positive, it's scary because of what it can mean. Just because some are posting snarky comments it isn't because of lack of excitement of our babies soon appeareance, it's more of being realistic. I think the snarky comments are just reactions to another seemingly pointless post. There's a thread already dedicated to these exciting realizations called "it just got real" or something along those lines.

If everyone announces when they hit 1 cm dilated, yes. And I'm pretty sure the comments have been in good fun, so I don't really understand the major offense by some people (not even OP really).
