Day 4 transfer?

Hey all!

I'm scheduled for a 4 day transfer tomorrow. Very weird to have on the 4th day since fertilization! Had 7 eggs retrieved on Sunday, 5 were mature & fertilized with ISCI, 2 were immature but fertilized overnight and had next day ISCI & fertilized so 7 embryos total. As of yesterday, Tuesday, all 7 were on track with where it would be expected with 5 being on day 2 & 2 being on day 1.

So got the call today that I am scheduled for a transfer for tomorrow afternoon. They didn't have an update on the embryos from what I was told yesterday just that I was having my transfer tomorrow, Thursday, on day 4. When I asked why as its usual to have a day 3 or a day 5 they said that sometimes the best embryos show themselves by how they are developing so they prefer to transfer them sooner rather than later as the uterus is a more hospitable place than the lab. Makes sense I suppose? Does it sound awful to anyone? Nayone hear of a day 4 transfer before?

Technically my last cycle ended up being a day 4 cycle when you look at day of retrieval but it was day 3 going by date of fertilization. We had a total fertilization failure and a RISCI the following day.
one good thing they did tell me today was my eggs didn't have SER aggregates which is awesome as I had it last time :-)

anyhoo, any feedback appreciated!

Re: Day 4 transfer?

  • Deardra77,
I had the same situation with this cycle. Retrieved 10 eggs, 4 mature and fertilized initially, then the other 6 matured overnight and fertilized the following day with ICSI. My doctor have me the same explanation as yours did. I was kinda nervous, but she reassured me this was best for the situation at hand... Beta tomorrow. Finger crossed... And good luck to you.

  • @mrsaesanders good to hear I'm not alone! :-) Good luck today, Ill be thinking of you!!!!!!! Looked at your previous posts, you are my IF doppelganger! I had a hydro too & a tube removed & the 2nd one is "just for decoration"! Did you POAS? I did last time & will this time too. In fact I tested to see if my trigger was out this morning and it is. Ill be testing everyday until my first beta so there are no unexpected surprises. How many days past transfer are you for your beta?

@boyanki thanks! Yeah was unexpected to get only get 7 RE had guessed on 13 but equally unexpected to have 100% maturity (eventually!) and fertilization, I'll take it! \:D/

  • @deardra77...I poas Wednesday and yesterday at 11 and 12dp4dt.. Three different tests...All positive. But as of tonight ( Late Thursday-early Friday) I started to spot. Praying it's not my AF... Beta in 6 hours. Will keep you posted. .
  • Congrats that's so awesome!!!! Try not to worry about your beta, easier said than done I know! Spotting is quite normal, don't let it stress u. Got to do with all the drugs and or an irritated cervix. Heck u can even have a full on flow and be fine. It's so normal to spot that they even brought it up today before my transfer that I should not be alarmed when/ if it happens.

  • Bfp mentioned*** @deardra77. Just wanted saying thanks for the encouraging words the other night. I was terrified after I saw the spotting. Beta #1 at 13dp4dt was 1024. Beta # 2 on 3/11. My nurse also confirmed that the endometrin causes spotting.
  • @deardra77 how did your transfer go?
  • I have no experience with transfers. Looks like you are in good shape plus you'll have some leftovers!

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

@mrsaesanders wow, congrats!!!!!!! So awesome! Can't BELIEVE they made you wait until 13dp, that's just soooo long! Great first beta though! My first beta is 9dp, but half thinking of sneaking ina  day early for it. >:)

That endometrin is a botch, I used it last time around for a week but swapped to the PIO again. Don't like shots but the other was so messy & the whole irritating the cervix and then causing spotting doesn't do wonders for the nerves! lol

Transfer went grand, I'm lucky like that, what ever shape things are down there means it goes very smoothly & zero discomfort..Now the waiting game.

Thanks @Vibee! Don't know if we will have any frosties, will find out later in the week. Only about 20% of cycles result in frosties. Only the very best are frozen, I believe it has to do with what will be expected to survive the freeze/thaw.  Keeping my fingers & toes crossed too

    :)
