Cervix thinned

So I just have a quick question.

I'm a high risk pregnancy with a gastroschisis baby. They are monitoring me weekly with ultrasounds and NSTs. Last week, when they checked my cervix I was 3 cm long, normal length they told me. Today, a week later, they said it went down to a 2 cm thinned, and if it goes below a 2 then they will start me on shots.

I am 30 weeks and 3 days pregnant now and a lot gastroschisis pregnancies do not go past 35 weeks (what I've heard) and they have me scheduled for an induction date when I turn 37 weeks. Is it normal for a 2cm thinned cervix at 30 weeks? Just looking for a few others with this

I don't think it's really normal.  How were they measuring?  Transvaginal ultrasounds are generally the most accurate to measure your cervix.  You may want to ask about daily progesterone suppositories and/or getting a FFN test if you think you may be having contractions.

I had short cervix measured 2.2 at 21 weeks. I was put on progesterone vaginal daily and modified bedrest ; weekly vaginal u/s to measure thd cervix lenght; they did sent ffn test few times. I gave birth to my lo at 39 weeks+ . Good luck and take care

With DS, the OB noticed my cervix shortened to 2.5cm after a kidney stone/infection at 26w (I was 4cm at 20w). She said it could be a problem, or it could be that's how my body is preparing for a normal, full term birth. The FFN was negative and they never checked me again. I went into labor at 32w3d and delivered that day.

That does seem like a pretty sudden shortening, but it also could be normal for you. I'm actually surprised they didn't do an FFN. If I were you, I'd ask for one to put your mind at ease. When will your cervix be checked again? Somewhat soon, I hope? Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself! I wish I had done a better job of it with DS!

With both of my previous pregnancies I ended up with a short cervix with funneling with my first at 24wks (it measured 1.0cm) and with my second at 19wks (it measured 1.2cm). I was put on strict bed rest with both pregnancies. I went every two weeks for cervical checks and FFN tests. Since my FFN test were always negative they never gave me the steroid shot. Both times they took me off bed rest at 37 weeks and DS#1 was both 2 days before my due date (which ended in c-sec) and DS#2 was a repeat c-sec scheduled at 39wks. 

(I forgot to mention that it went from 3.2cm to 1.cm in an 8day span). 

So far this pregnancy I am measuring 3.6cm and no bed rest yet.
