Little ones first trip out?

Sorry if this has been answered before, I got an hours sleep and can't find a thread, although I'm sure there is one! We went for our two week check up yesterday and all is good. Back over birth weight, and growing well. I asked the nurse when I could take him out and about with me and she said 4 months. I said "do you mean 4 weeks?" And she said "no, 4 months before he can go with me to the supermarket, cafe, dinner, mall..." I am really confused. I see people out all the time with LOs, and I know my sister took her DD out after a week in central London. I didn't get to question her further as LO had a melt down and pooped all over the docs table, but when I got home I thought about it and thought I would ask on here to see what the norm was. BTW we live in Arizona, it's 85 degrees here so he wouldn't be cold, and there are now crowds or public transport that I would have to use, so limited exposure to people compared to when I lived in London. TIA!

  • We take lo everywhere. He went for Indian food for his 1 week bday :)

  • I don't think there's really a "rule" so much, just go with when you feel comfortable.  I know we started taking LO out, just for quick errands, after maybe only 1 week.  She was always asleep & covered up by her carseat cover so I really wasn't too worried even about contact with germs.  But I'd def say even if you're feeling cautious that after the 2 month visit & shots you should be fine!
  • I started taking my LO out at a week old . I think it was Target ?! Then dinner at a week and a half . Since then all over .
  • I took lo out at a week & she's been pretty much every where with me since. She'll be 3 months Saturday & this past weekend we took a trip to Austin tx & I took her out of her car seat & stroller & held her for a short amount of time as we toured the university :) like other pp she's fine too

  • I started taking him out one he had all his 2 month shots. It's just a matter of your comfort level. I still don't let people touch him when we're out and I am vigilant about use of hand sanitizer.

My doc said avoid heavily crowded places until about 6 weeks. Granted I live in Brookyn NY so shen he says crowded he means crowded. Other than that he did recommend taking LO out ASAP as it's good to have a change of scenery and fresh air. Unfortunately I was stuck for a bit in the beginning because of the damn polar vortex but whenever the temp went up we went out.
