Stash after NB

So I was writing down what I have in my NB stash last night, and what I have that's not NB. And found myself wondering, WTH do I need once I'm out of NB size?

So far I have two OS covers and one OS pocket diaper.  If I am doing primarily pre-folds and covers and pockets, what do I need for my stash after baby gets out of NB size? TIA!

I'd suggest 18-24 changes for EOD washing. Maybe a dozen pfs, 4 covers, and 8-10 pockets? I do all pockets w/ my 8m old, although I have pfs and just ordered some BBs to try, and he wears a fitted w/ a BB cover at night.

Thanks! What about doublers? I will need some of those at this point, right?

Can you sew? Doublers are super easy/cheaper to make than buy. Might want to invest in natural fiber inserts if your budget allows or you can stuff with prefolds.

Honestly, until your LO is here, I wouldn't buy too much OS stuff.  The reason being is that every baby and mommy combo has something different that they love.  And that can change as baby grows and becomes more mobile.

I thought for sure I'd love pockets and nothing else.  So that's what I bought.  Now that we've been doing this for a while, I actually wish I had way less pockets and just did tri-folded prefolds in covers with a few pockets/AIOs for DC/sitters.  

The other option if you're a planner/want to buy now would be to get a very diversified stash.  As PP said you want around 18-24 changes.  I like to have 6-12 prefolds and/or flats.  3-4 good quality PUL covers.  Two AI2 covers with 3-6 inserts for the diaper bag (We use Best Bottoms.) A handful of pockets/AIOs.  For ON it will really depend on whether you have a heavy wetter.  When G was 4-13 months he was a crazy heavy wetter.  We used EcoPosh fitteds and PUL covers or bamboo prefolds with two hemp doublers.  Now he's slowed down on the wetting and we just use a prefold with a small cotton doubler.

With a diverse stash you can find something that works easily.  Plus you can always sell what you hate and buy more of what you love.  Just remember your "loves" could change as baby grows.

OS diaper trial? and pick up some super basics... like some hemp or bamboo doublers...12 maybe to start. and you know you will want covers... but I would find which newborn covers you like first in your current stash and then buy off of that. a dozen prefolds never hurt and you know you like them.  you can use them to fill the gaps while trying other options

I bought half a dozen BG4.0, 1 OS fuzzibunz and 1 OS rumparooz along with a dozen prefolds for out of the newborn stage.  My thirsties size 1 covers lasted me from the NB stage into OS for a while, but I've since had to buy a couple more covers.

I agree with PPs - wait a bit before committing, maybe buy and couple other OS to see what you like.  I figured out pretty quickly that I hated my fuzzibunz OS (though it's starting to grow on me a bit more), wasn't too keen on the rumparooz, and liked the BG enough to stock up on them for daycare purposes.  At home we mostly use prefolds and covers.

And even if you can't sew - I bought some hemp fleece and just cut it up (no sewing required as it doesn't fray!) for doublers.  I bought it off amazon for ease of purchase.  So if you want to get some doublers for a low amount of effort/low cost - that's one approach to take!

Thanks for the input..reason I was asking is I am having a baby shower and I'm registered on Amazon so I've put some diapering things on there I wanted and I was trying to think of diapers I could put on there for later on..don't know if anyone will buy them for me, but it's worth a try!

Thanks, the only diaper I have bought more than 1 of is the Thirsties duo wrap b/c so many people have raved about them. Other than that, I am really trying to diversify.

A cover with a lie-in or snap-in insert. Best bottoms have snap in inserts. You just change the insert with each change and reuse the cover. They are awesome for travel bc the inserts lie flat in your suitcase/bag and the covers are thin. Plus best bottoms has adorable prints!
