3 Questions

1. Simon Schroeder doesn't count as S & S, right? People keep mentioning it when we bring up the name. "I wouldn't use Simon b/c of the double S"

2. Would Simon Oliver sound super British? Also thinking Simon Reid.

3. Does the nn Si make you think of Duck Dynasty? I love nn, have never watched the show, but don't really want people thinking I named my kid after DD.

Re: 3 Questions

  • 1. Yep, totally fine.
    2. Haha! I think it's a non-issue. I do like Reid more than Oliver but it's just personal preference.
    3. I wouldn't worry about the NN. Let it come naturally! I've never seen the show but I wouldn't connect the two. Well, maybe I would if he were wearing a bunch of Duck Dynasty apparel ;)

  • 1. Alliteration doesn't bother me in the least, so my answer to this question is purple.

    2. I get more of a biblical vibe from Simon, but I could be off.  There was a Simon in the bible, right?

    3. I have never seen Duck Dynasty, and I think it's silly to discount a name that as of right now, a small margin of the population watches.  By the time your kid is 2, no one will blink.

  • 1. I don't mind alliteration.  My FIL and one BIL have SS names and I've never really thought anything of it aside from eventually noticing it was the case (mostly because I'm on the BNB and I overthink names anyway).

    2. No.

    3. No.  (I've only watched a couple of episodes, but in any case I don't think it will be even a minor consideration after a few years.)

  • 1. I dislike alliteration, so for me, Simon Schroeder would be too much.

    2. Simon Oliver doesn't sound too British, and I love both those names.  I think they sound great together.

    3. I've never seen Duck Dynasty, so it doesn't make me think of the show at all.

  • 1. Normally, I'd that S and S+consonant are different sounds so not to worry about alliteration, but Simon Schroeder does sound a bit odd.

    2. Yes, but i don't think that that's a problem. Also, I would never have made the association if you hadn't mentioned it.

    3. Yes.

  • 1 I don't like aliteration generally but I think S Sh can work. But I agree with JMU I don't love how they sound together

    2. I would not have thought of that if you hadn't said that. I think sounding British is something to aspire to ;). FWIW the only Simon I've personally known was polish. I like the way Simon Oliver sounds

    3. Have not watched Duck Dynasty. I probably wouldn't let that deter me, and I usually avoid names that have strong singular cultural associations.
