Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Babbling

DS will be 8 months next week and is not babbling as much as I think he should. Some days he is very vocal and shrieks/make noises constantly, whereas other days he hardly makes a peep. He will occasionally (like I can count on one hand) the number of times he has made a consonant noise (ma and ba), but nothing consistently like mamamama or dadadda. His most common sound is mmmmm. He also tends to be most chatty in the morning when he is rolling around in his crib for 15 minutes or so before I go and get him.

I plan on bringing this up at his 9 month check up, but wanted to see if anyone had any advice. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Re: Babbling

  • DS is 7 months and he was making alot of grunts.  I do catch him smacking his gums trying to talk now. lol....i think it's all normal. every baby is different and they will do things at their own natural time. Don't try to force things....boys tend to be slower, from what i hear, anyhow.

  • I'd bring it up with your pedi but I wouldn't worry. LO was blabbing all the time around 2mo, then he stopped for several months and one day he started again, now he doesn't shut up.
