Feeling the Babies Move

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I've been freaking out.

Apparently both babies have anterior placentas and I think DD did, too. I don't think I've felt them yet. Maybe a little, but it's been so hard to tell! I felt DD a bit late, too, and not often until later. I'm just wondering if anyone else had twins with anterior placentas and when you felt them. Also, with twins, when did you feel them even with a "normal" placenta? Thanks for any advice. Getting closer to my loss milestone so my anxiety has been picking up of course.

Re: Feeling the Babies Move

  • Both boys had anterior placentas and it was around 24 weeks were I could feel them consistently and from the outside. My baby A was always hard to feel but I think that was also because he was so low. My baby B I felt all the time. He laid on top of baby A which I think made a difference.

  • I also have an anterior placenta, so I started feeling little flutters around 15-16 weeks, but didn't feel any big kicks or movements until closer to 20 weeks.  I was a little over 22 weeks when DH could finally feel the kicks from the outside.  I was really nervous about it, too, but try not to be.  They could also be facing backward, so you won't feel the kicks as much that way either.  Hang in there!

  • I have anterior placentas with my twins.  I'm almost 24 weeks and still don't feel them moving all that much.  I was expecting with twins to be feeling them more than my singletons, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Every time I go in for an ultrasound they are moving like crazy though, so I figure it's a combination of the anterior placentas and they are probably facing backwards or just kicking each other.

  • Mine had normal placentas and I'm pretty sure I felt them as early as 12 weeks, though I know that sounds early so maybe it was just gas :)  This was my second pregnancy and I do think I felt them much earlier than my first (who I didn't feel until around 20 weeks if I remember correctly).

  • I had anterior placentas as well and couldn't feel them until after 24 weeks. My singleton I felt around 19. Even up until delivery I only really ever felt one baby move.

  • The question about whether you feel them move yet or not was my least favorite question. I didn't feel them consistently until 24 weeks or so and I always felt nervous when people would ask about it. Now at 31 weeks I wish they would calm down a bit, particularly at night. I have now resolved to never ask a pregnant woman that again bc I hated the question so much for so long!

My dr also said you sometimes feel twins move less bc they kick into each and it gets absorbed instead of you feeling it in your belly. It made me feel better even if it isn't true!
  • I would say it wasn't til about 24 w that it was obvious and consistent

  • Thanks for all the comments, ladies. I know deep down they're fine and it's normal to not feel much yet, but it helps hearing from you ladies how it was/is for you. My first set of twins kicked each other a bunch from what I could tell in the u/s so that's definitely a possibility!

  • 19w, one anterior and one posterior placenta :) no movement yet!
  • I'm PG with b/g twins - 24 weeks today.  Baby girl has an anterior placenta, and I didn't feel her move at all until around 21-22 weeks -- and even since then, I've really only felt her a few times (although more frequently in the last few days).  At my 22 wk appt., the OB said that around 24-25 weeks, she should be strong enough that I'll feel her more often.  Baby boy has a posterior placenta, and he tends to lay across the top of my belly, so I feel him all day long....For a long time I worried about baby girl, but it feels better now that I'm starting to finally feel her a bit more often!  it doesn't help that she tends to stay breech, with her feet on top of my bladder - so my bladder and her placenta tend to absorb most of her movements!

  • I have an anterior placenta with one twin and placenta pre via with the other.  I started feeling flutters on my left side around 14 weeks, but still don't really feel anything on my right unless it is hard kicks at the top of my uterus.

  • between 20-21 weeks, and even then I only felt 1 consistently...it drove me nuts! I had a regular placenta too if that helps.
