Nap in crib

DD sleeps great at night in her crib, usually eleven hours straight. She is 9 weeks old. I have been having a really hard time getting her to nap in there though. I will put her down and she will only sleep for a max of thirty minutes. I know she is still tired because she usually falls back to sleep in my arms a few minutes later. I have tried to let her fuss in her crib for awhile to see if she will go back to sleep but that never happens. I feel bad because she probably isn't getting as much sleep as she need during the day because if I have to hold her while she sleeps it keeps getting interrupted because I have to move around a lot to keep up with my toddler. Any suggestions? We use the swaddle and while noise just like at night.

Re: Nap in crib

  • At that age my DS didn't really nap in the crib either. He usually fell asleep in the car seat when we went out somewhere. I would just click the car seat into the stroller and he'd sleep while DD was at storytime, playgroups, etc. at home he'd sleep in the swing or RNP. Honestly if they are sleeping that well at night I wouldn't worry too much about the naps.

  • 9 weeks is pretty young to be concerned about where baby is napping.  At that age I'd let them nap wherever.  Neither of my kids napped well in their cribs till they were 6 months or so.  PP suggestion of wearing in the moby for naps is a great one.  I wore DS all of the time at that age.
  • I agree with other PP, 9 weeks is very young to expect sleeping or napping efficiently in a crib.  My kids slept everywhere at that age, swing, RnP, my own bed!, on me and I have to say they weren't napping for very long at that age either.   DD is just turning 6 months old and she is just now sleeping in her crib and just started taking more predictable longer naps.  So a little jealous that you are already that successful with the crib sleeping.  I sometimes just put her down in our guest room and close the door with the sleep sheep or TV on.  Something about the TV, not sure if she likes the background talking like someone is around, works.  If it is too quiet she wakes up.  I think it will just get better but 9 weeks is still pretty young.
