Traveling and a stroller question

DS is 27 months, and in April we are flying to Florida (his first vacation)

We have a bulkier and rather heavy Graco stroller.  It is nothing fancy, but it has served us well.  Would you lug that thing through the airport, or should I be looking to find a cheap umbrella stoller?  Will it make much of a difference?

Re: Traveling and a stroller question

  • I think an umbrella stroller is a good investment in general-- we keep one in our trunk at all times.

  • We forgot to bring a stroller the last time we flew to Austin over thanksgiving and realized we didnt miss it. I think an umbrella may be the way to go!

  • I'll be the counter argument here. I might get a smaller stroller than the huge one you have, but even at 3, having a stroller than reclines is imperative, especially in a situation where there might be a lot of walking and adventures and unexpected napping happens.

  • We have an in-between stroller (it's our only stroller; $70) and have flown with it many times. I need more storage space than you get with an umbrella, plus there's the shade issue and the recline.

  • Make sure you test the umbrella stroller for a couple longer outings before your trip. I made the mistake of buying one and only testing it around the house (where it was fine). On our FL/cruise trip in January it was such a piece of crap and I ended up wishing I had my larger stroller.

  • also , look into renting one while there.  I went to Florida last month and there was a company that rented full size strollers.  I didn't have to worry about it in the airport with the carseat and it was awesome.  Call the hotel and ask them if they have the name of a company.
