Baby Names

Jo?

I love the nickname Jo for a little girl. Suggestions of full names with this nn? DD is Evangeline, so Josephine is out. I'm not a fan of Joan/Joanna. Ideas?

You could name her Joanne after the Queen. ;)

  • My daughter is Johanna. You can pronounce it Jo-hau-na or Jo-han-na (Joe + Hannah). My DD is the latter.

I kind of like just Jodi. And I love Jocelyn. There's Jolene too, which is just okay to me.

  • Ooooh, I'm loving Josette nn Josie. And I'm watching HP and the Chamber of Secrets with my 3-yr old as I type.

Who is Jocasta in the Oedipus story? I'm too busy (lazy) to google.
  • My little sister is Jolene and we call her Jo. I'd prefer Jocelyn or Josette.

  • Ew. I'm very familiar with the Oedipus complex and the Electra Complex but those theoretical psych classes were a loooong time ago! I never heard of the Jocasta complex and didn't remember it being Oedipus' mother's name. Interesting. I'll pass.
  • Hmmm...most great "Jo" names have been listed already, but I know a Jocosa. I always thought it was pretty cool, and according to Behind the Name, it's the medieval variant of Joyce.
  • How would you ladies pronounce Josette?
    JO.set?
    JOSS.et
    Am I over thinking it?

Close to the bolded, but for me it's more like Jose-ette

  • Jolene or Josie
  • I personally like Jolene and Jocelyn. But you could also use Joy. A lovely, simple name.
