My PIO were actually okay for me. I barely felt them unless I was at a bad angle. But I wasnt tender or sore or anything like that. I didnt start feeling the side effects of them until after about a week or so after starting them. I got the breast tenderness, a little weight gain, and a little bit of nausea.

I was pleasantly surprised last night with the first shot. I felt nothing! I just hope it wasn't a fluke.
You are doing a FET right? I wanted to add, that by the time I started feeling the side effects of PIO I had already had my FET, so I wasnt sure if I was pregnant or not. Just try not to read too much into symptoms.

Not to burst your bubble but I was the same way my first cycle. I thought "this is a piece of cake". Lol it wasn't until about a week later that I started getting sore - from my backside all the way down the sides of my thighs felt sore to the touch. It went away about two weeks after stopping the shots.
This cycle I feel like we ran out of room (which surprises me since I feel like I gained so much weight there should be more room back there!) even the shot going in hurts sometimes.
Not to scare you! Just a heads up. I also don't use ice or a heating pad (my RE didn't recommend it) so my experience may be worse than others. Good luck!!
I used PIO for my FET. DH administers the injection and I rub and apply heating pad afterwards.
The first two weeks went well. After that, things got a little itchy or numb feeling back there. It extended over parts of my buttocks beyond the actual injection site.
PIO is the devil. Ok...well maybe its an angel in disguise...I had allergies to the sesame oil so perhaps my experience was a bit different. For me, the first 10 days were not so bad. I did develop painful welts that took a while to go down. Part of the welt was due to the allergy, the other part was because the PIO is so thick, it takes it a while to absorb.
To keep the irritation at a minimal, try to move the muscle a bit after the injection. It will help to disperse the giant ball of oil and absorb. Some had luck with heat pads for a few minutes after the injection as well. I found I had less swelling if I injected two days in a row on the same side then switched to the other side.
If you do get your BFP, you will have to keep on the PIO until 8-12 weeks depending on your RE. I can tell you, that last week on PIO was really hard. There was no place to inject that wasnt already covered in lumps. DH and I were cussing each other and I was threatening to stick him in the butt with that needle!
The good news is, after stopping the shots, the swelling starts to go down and within a few weeks your giant welts are now the size of dimes. But I've heard of others that had the welts for months after. I think it just depends on your body and how it absorbs the oils.

REALLY??!!! Omg, now I see why everyone gets all upset about them. My ass would be sore if I had to take them that long too! Good lord. Now Im not happy about starting my shots again.

So of all the progesterone types, would you choose PIO over the suppositories? I'm on Endometrin 3x a day and was thinking about calling and asking for PIO... The supps are SO gross!!!
I never really got sore from the shots...there were a couple that hurt going in but I think that was attributable more to my husband's injection technique than anything else! They were so uneventful for me that I started to wonder if I was doing them wrong. I can't remember exactly when the symptoms started but eventually I got the terribly sore/heavy breasts.
@PrincessPix If you had asked me before ever doing PIO, I would have said stick with the suppositories if only to avoid the IM injection. But for IVF #1 I was on BOTH endometrin and PIO, and the endometrin was disgusting...worse than crinone I thought. If it's up to me for future cycles, I'll do anything to avoid the endometrin.
Mines was about the same time frame as alot of the pp. It started off fine the first week and a half then every place I put it in started to hurt like I hit a nerve. I even had the tingling leg a time or two from I think hitting a nerve. At first it was a breeze..I thought this is just to good to be true. And it was!!! I had a chemical pregnancy so I didn't have to endure it for weeks but not sure how long I would have lasted without asking can I alternate with any other form.

I wish I could only be on suppositories because the shots to me were the worst..I skipped a day of my PIO shot cause I was terrified of sticking myself the very next day. I told the nurse what happened and she gave me Endometrin until she spoke with the Dr. Now I wonder if the day I didn't take it caused my chemical pregnancy. I won't ever do that again though....
I did PIO for two months for my FET up until my loss st 8w3d (not due to p4 levels) and i never felt sore. If you massage and heat, fx you stay one of the lucky ones. I know I always felt lucky.
@prayingforblessing - missing a dose to transfer types is one of my concerns. I held off calling the RE's office & am gonna keep trudging along with the endometrin... FX this cycle works, but if I have to do this again, I know endometrin won't be my first choice!

Definitely don't stop taking it..you don't want that to be your after thought if something goes wrong. If it's uncomfortable for you I would still call the Dr and ask what are your options but don't skip any of your doses or injections like I did . Always make sure you keep one in your system until you get the other.
So the day 2 shot was not as painless as day 1. It wasn't horrible but I definitely felt it this time. No sore rump yet but I'm sure its right around the corner.
