NBR - Recommend your car!

DH and I currently share a car and since he works and I don't, I am without a car throughout the day. However, DH may be getting a better paying job soon that would require us to move about 200 miles away from home. He promised if he gets the job, he will buy me a car so I'm not stranded in a new place. My only problem is I have no idea what car to get. We'll be buying used since we can't afford more than about $15,000. I absolutely must have 4 doors (getting a child in and out of a car seat with only 2 doors is nearly impossible!) but other than that, I'm pretty open. I'd like something spacious so we're not all cramped (right now it's myself, DH, and 18mo DS but we're hoping for #2 in the next year or so) and decent trunk/cargo space. Good gas mileage is obviously important. So, my fellow mommies, recommend the car you love! TIA for your help!

  • First off, welcome and come play more often.
We have a Nissan Versa that DH drives around. It's amazingly spacious in the back and the trunk is a decent size too. It's also really affordable we've had it for 6 years with no problems. I think we got it new for 11,000.
We have a highlander, that is our main car and I love it. All our family and friends have loved their Corollas.

  • I have a GMC Terrain, it is my commuter and the family car. Gets decent mpg for AWD 19-23 depending on the season. DH has a Subaru Impreza. He loves it. It is AWD as well and gets about 28mpg on avereage. It has more than enough room to fit DD in the back and another one once we decide to. DH is 6'7" so it is def a roomy smaller car.

  • I love my 2004 Hyundai Sant Fe. The easiest car I have ever put our car seat into is my dad's Nissan Xterra.

I just bought a car, to use while the big girl's and even Logan are in school.
I have my van, but it tends to use quite a bit of gas.  I bought a car that would fit the three youngest across the back seat.  I went to the lot with, three car seats and double stroller.  I drove away in a Sonata Hybrid.  I haven't had it even a week, but I truly love this car!!
  • I have a 2011 Toyota matrix. I love my car, its good in snow (for a smaller car). I can fit a lot of things in it, and it gets great gas mileage (@30 mph).

We test drove a Ford Fusion, it was SO roomy. I think it was 15K, but it had all the bells and whistles. You could also try a Chevy Malibu.

  • A preowned Rav4- we have had so much good fortune with it. We also have a Versa but can't wait to unload it, too small!
