Parenting after a Loss

Mirena and weird cycles question (andreahshields)

Anybody else have a Mirena that could possibly answer a weird question?  This is my second month with a cycle since I got the Mirena and both months have been very odd flow.  I heard that usually women with the Mirena will stop having a period altogether.  Apparently, that's not me.  I had full flow on Thursday, absolutely nothing and Friday and Saturday, then full flow again yesterday.  It's gone again today, and that will probably be it since that's the same thing that happened last month.  I'm just wondering if anybody else has had experience with this type of start and stop flow, and if I should just get used it as the norm.

Re: Mirena and weird cycles question (andreahshields)

  • Yep, get used to weird cycles.  As soon as I was ready to get it out because I was so annoyed with all of the spotting and stopping of my period, it went away totally for about 8 months.  Then every once in a while I would get a day of spotting.  I had it in for a total of 22 months and I think I only had a period for maybe 5 months.

  • Thanks!  I'm still waiting another year before I'm done with it so that's good to know.  I thought I was just weird.

No, everything else has been perfect.  I love not having to worry about taking a pill everyday.

That's exactly why I wanted to go this route!  I did the nuva ring for a while in college.. and, though you didn't have to take something daily with that, I had TONS of issues with YIs and bladder infections.. like, all the time!  And then towards the end, I was just bleeding randomly throughout the month.. so, definitely don't want to do that again.. plus, the idea of not having a period.. kinda nice!! By the time this baby comes, I will have not had a period for almost 3 years!! I've gotten used to not needing to worry about it!

  • Hi ladies.
Another ttcal'er here. I read this thread and had to comment. I had the mirena after my dd8. When I had it taken out, it had flipped upside down and they couldn't get it. I had two separate appointments that were 1 and 1/2 hours each. The obgyn said any longer and she would have sent me for surgery. When I had the mirena, I recommended it to EVERYone.

I'll never know if it's related or not, but I have my own suspicions about what has caused problems with my reproductive system.
