Is my crockpot supposed to smell funky???

Here's another cooking foible/question from me: I just got a new crockpot (my other one just decided to die one day....RIP) and it's taking its maiden voyage today w/ a potroast. I started the roast an hour ago and, as the crockpot heated up, I noticed a faint chemical-y smell. I checked everything....it's not near anything it could burn. The only thing I would think is that maybe it just smells weird the first time it heats up? Does that sound even remotely normal??

Yep....had washed the inside part already, so there's nothing there. I hope it's just because it's new!!

I'd let it go and then worry if it continues. I love that you referred to this as its maiden voyage!

Thanks, ladies!! That's what I was thinking, but DH got me all freaked out as he left for work saying "Don't burn the house down." :-P The weird smell does seem to be going away.....or I'm just used to it, and it's mixing w/ delicious potroast smell....so hopefully all is well.

My Crock Pot has always smelled that way and I've used it a lot. It is annoying but I can't find anything wrong with it and the food tastes fine. I have another that doesn't smell, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Sounds normal to me!! Have fun crock pot cooking, I love it and don't use my collection often enough.
