High-Risk Pregnancy

Type one advice...

I am just about 7 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if anyone has experience bs spikes and how they handled them. My bs ran around 6 all day today and then shot up to 19 at 9:00pm. I am scared that I am hurting my baby. How many spikes do you experience in a week? Any other advice for me? My last a1c was 6.4.

  • From what I've read, occasional spikes are to be expected.  The big worry is if you stay high for an extended period of time.

Do you know what may have caused your jump?  Did you miscalculate your bolus at dinner?

  • I had a small snack of potatoes after my supper and I think that is what cause the spike. It took no time to get from 6 to 19.

Potatoes make me jump really quickly, too!  I always have to add a little extra insulin when I eat them.
