Pubic bone pain???

I'm 28 weeks 3 days and for the past few week the front of my pubic bone has been swollen and painful.. It seems to be getting worse.. Is this normal?

Re: Pubic bone pain???

  • Mine kills. I wear a support belt during the day which helps but getting out of bed hurts like a bitch! Dr. Said its normal :c( have you tried any kind of support belt to alleviate the pressure?

  • I hope so, because I've had the same thing. It feels bruised, and hurts to move.
  • I had this a TON with my first :( this one it's random.

  • :/ I guess I'm going to have to find a support belt!
  • Me too, feels like i was kicked.doc says its normal though.
  • Yep...I have this. Pretty sure it is SPD. I had it with DS as well but it went away almost immediately after he was born, if that is any consolation.

  • SPD. Hurts like hell, I had it with DS. Like pp, it went away as soon as he was out.

Pointer: Keep your knees together (when squatting to pick something up, rolling over in bed, getting out of the car). A pillow between the knees for sleeping really helped me as well.

  • SPD (symphisis pubis dysfunction).  Had it at the end with DD (like 34 weeks on), have had it since about 18 weeks this time around.  Some days/weeks are worse than others.

The biggest problem for people with SPD is with the movement separating the legs (so getting on/off the bed, in/out of the car, etc).

Maternity support belts can help take some of the pressure off the region, otherwise, basically try to limit those movements.  Mine was getting bad last week and I've been careful to limit the movements that were causing a lot of pain (try to keep move your legs together whenever possible - like I get on my side, bring my knees up toward me belly and then kind of sit myself up before getting out of bed.  And sit down when you put on pants.) and it's definitely feeling better.  I'd also mention it to your OB at your next appt, just to see what they say/suggest, especially if it's really bad.

  • It's not between my legs though.. It's the front. Is that the same thing?
