DH has a business trip in Florida in August and we will get to spend a few hours at Disney with the company. Not sure if we will take DS. I don't like roller coasters but I would take DS if he showed interest. I would make a special trip if he were 7 or 8 maybe older?

I hate them. I can't describe how scary they are to me! I wish I liked them, DH loves them! People who wear heads so you can't tell who's under there freak me out too. Lol I'm a weird person but it's stuff I need to get over in order for DS to be normal :)
  • I LOVE Disney World! DH hates it! He sweats that we're never going but I think once DS is old enough to beg him he'll cave. & if baby #2 turns out to be a girl I think DH will be putty in her hands. LOL!! So maybe in another few years.
  • I have been 3x. The last time was in 1999 (I was a senior in high school). I don't have much desire to go but DD would LOVE it. MH really wants to go but I have no idea when we will go. Definitely not this yr.

  • Ok we have more in common. We loooooove Disney! I went 2x as a kid and DH and I went to Disneyland as part of a business trip, but it's soooo much more fun to go with the kids! We took DS right before his 1st bday and will return in Dec right before he turns 3 and DD turns 1. Part of our rationale is that they are free for everything until they turn 3 so it makes it much more affordable. If you do go, hold off on the first haircut for your youngest and get it done at the barber shop in Magic Kingdom - we did that with DS and it was such a fun milestone!

  • I do not care for it at all and we will most likely never take our children there. It's pretty much the worst vacation we could imagine. I am glad that DH and I are feeling the same way about it. We would much rather go hiking in Colorado or exploring national parks or something like that. :-)

  • We love disney. As a fl resident, we get a discount so we go often for short trips. My DD loves it- the characters, the rides, everything. She has been 4x and every time she loves it more. Not sure when we will go next though.
mtb- Definitely skip disney while pregnant. I've done it, and while it's do-able, it's not fun.

  • I love Disney World! We went a lot when I was younger and they are some of my favorite childhood memories. I wanted to go really bad this year but with so much crap that we had to put into the house don't think it will happen. DH is not as into it as I am but he also only went to Disneyland when he was really small so I don't think he really "gets" it. I think I want to go next year but I don't want to be pregnant so I might have to wait on trying till we go. I also want to go when DS is free, I can't imagine paying $100 for each of us! It's kind of insane how expensive stuff is but I do think it's awesome you can bring your own food/drinks into the park!

  • Let me start by saying I love Disney and grew up going and DH and I went a few times before having DS...but we are a 3 hour drive to Disney World and have yet to take DS there.  DS is a TERRIBLE traveler and I think taking him at this age is going to be very stressful.  Plus, there are only a few months out of the year when going to Disney is tolerable weather-wise....

June-September is out...not only is it beyond hot, it is crowded.  January and February are actually good months to go since the weather is nice and it's not terribly crowded since kids are in school.  November and December are nice too weather-wise but tend to be crowded months.

That being said I would like to take DS before #2 comes...not pregnant yet by definitely thinking about it in the next few months.  I don't think doing Disney pregnant would be terrible as long as it's not summer-time and maybe not in the 3rd trimester.  So maybe October we will try (plus I hope DS will be a better traveler by then).

I don't understand!!! Seriously it might be my favourite destination.
    Can we still be friends?

  • We went to Disney Word (Magic Kingdom) last January with the girls. My husband was working in FL so it seemed like a good excuse to go. They were just 3 and 1, but they loved it, especially my oldest. There is something very magical about Disney between about 3 and 5. They total buy into it at that age.

In November we went to Disneyland for a day the week of Thanksgiving (we were visiting family in So Cal). We had a good time, but the place was a total zoo. Rides that normally have very little wait had hour + wait times. It was ridiculous. The highlights of the day were meeting Princesses in their new "hall" (I don't remember what it's called, but they always have 3 princesses there), and the holiday parade.

We will, of course, be going back. Maybe next Christmas.

  • I've lived in FL all my life so I've been more times than I can count. I love it there. We took DS last May. We knew he was really young and wouldn't "get it". But we can a FL discount and under 3 gets in free. He had so much fun. Like @bluecards said they do first haircuts there. We waited until then to get his haircut. It was a lot of fun. Very "magical" lmao. We are going to take him again this may. It will be our last vacation as a family of 3.

  • I've been a few times to Disney World.  First time I went I was in high school.  My mom had a business conference so I flew out to meet her and we went.  I also went a few years ago when my SD was 5 and it was the WORST vacation.  Seriously.  Not the most magical place on earth, however, we expected too much.  She didn't want to go on rides we wanted to and it was in August (DH had a conference out there) and it was miserably hot!

When we were in Paris last summer we did take the kids to Disneyland Paris - it was a much smaller version of WDW and was fun.  DS was too young to really get it but DD loved it and my SD went on some of the bigger kid rides we wanted to go on so that was fun.

I would love to go to WDW in the next 2 years or so but during an off time so it's not crowded!  My best friend lives in Florida so would love to meet up with her and her family there.  however, we would only do a few days at the parks and then go to Clearwater Beach which is one of our favorite places in Florida.

Universal is fun too in FL.  We got engaged at the Royal Pacific hotel on the Universal property so it has a special meaning. Would be fun to take the kids there and show them where we got engaged :)

  • We live only a few hours a way from Disney. We have already taken DS to the Magic Kingdom and SeaWorld. We did this when he was 21 months. He loved them both and actually sat through a few shows at SeaWorld. We will probably eventually get seasonal passes for Fl Residents. It's not as much as an annual pass because it has blockout dates. The blockout dates are when we would never want to go- major holidays and SUMMER. I remember going to Disney once during the summer and it was the most miserable place on Earth- not the happiest. It was soooo crowded and HOT. Yuck.

Actually I wish we could take DS to Disney now. There is a FL resident deal going on- 3 days for $129 per adult. But we are going on a cruise next week and we don't have enough time off to do it any other time. Hopefully they have the same deal next year. They usually do it in the spring.
