Baby proofing help

So we live in an apartment that is part of an older house. For heat, most of the rooms have the big metal radiators and those have covers so LO can't touch them. However, in the bathroom and kitchen we have ones like this. image (please excuse the missing tile)

The whole thing is metal and gets quite warm and the little silver thing is a steam release that gets super hot. Anyone have any ideas for making this safer? LO isn't crawling yet, but he has started cruising on the furniture, so mobility is imminent.

Re: Baby proofing help

  • Maybe a fireplace gate that encloses the whole thing? Blocking it off is probably your only option. My LO always heads towards our baseboards but luckily they have never been on when she has managed to touch then

  • ^ This. Our last apartment had radiators in every room that were burning hot during the winter and our friend made us some covers to keep little hands away.
  • We couldn't deal with babyproofing the whole bathroom (similar radiators) so we just close the door and put little eye hooks at the top of them. Or get those handle covers. No bathrooms for babies in this house! It was such an easier solution than toilet locks, cabinet locks, drawer pulls, etc.

This is what we did the first go round but now we have DS1 who needs to be able to access the toilet :)  We're thinking of putting a lower hook and eye so he can reach it :)

Oh I just make DS1 go out in the yard. :) We haven't crossed that bridge yet because DS2 is still a total lump of a baby but we'll probably do the same lower latch thing.

This would make cleaning the bathroom so much easier :-p
