Trying to Get Pregnant

OPK Conflicting Results

Hey there so I just wanted to write about my experience with OPK's.
I usually use the clear blue regular OPK's (non digital). This cycle I decided to try the digital OPK - clear blue.

between CD 10 and CD 15 - I got a circle (not fertile)
CD 16 i got a solid smiley face (peak fertility) - totally skipping high fertility (blinking smiley face) altogether
CD 17 solid smiley face
CD 18 solid smiley face

On the digital OPK I got 3 days of solid smiley faces testing at 6am each morning.

However, on CD 17 I also (in the same stream) used one of my left over regular OPK (non digital) sticks to compare... and the surge line was lighter than the control line which would indicate that LH levels are low. Sorta strange to me .. unless the digital ones are more sensitive?!

I am charting my temps as well - no increased so I know I haven't o'ed yet. But I just found this a little odd. I will use the digi OPK again tomorrow morning to see what happens with that.

  • Ok, I used the digital Advanced OPKs, which is what it sounds like you're using. First off, once you hit peak, it locks up for 48 hours. So if you got a peak on CD16, you shouldn't test again until it goes off of the peak (solid smiley) reading. It's just wasting sticks because it does stay on peak for 2 days, so it's no shock that you also had the same reading for CD17-18.

As far as how the readings go, it's not a guaranteed pattern of blank, then blinking, then solid. I had months where I went straight to solid from blank, and I had months where I had 5 days of blinking (high) before I hit solid (peak).

What I'm guessing happened, since you are temping and haven't seen a shift. The digital OPK caught a surge that didn't yet lead to ovulation, so it went peak because the surge happened and it sensed it. But, since the advanced digitals lock  up for 48 hours, that has been why you've continued to get the peak readings.

I don't know much about using digitals twice in one month after it already read peak, so I don't know if you keep using it if it will read correctly (I think someone on here did/does and it works). I'd continue using the other OPKs and temping. It's the big pitfall of the digitals, that if you surge more than once a month before ovulation they don't always pick it up the second time.

  • I think if you wait three days, the test holder resets and you should be able to use is again.

  • Why do people choose to list CD info and not just link their chart?

I would believe the digi over the IC.

Thanks for the info .. that is a silly thing for the digi test to do .. but that may make sense then. Out of curiosity i may stick one in water and see if it gives me a solid smiley/peak. Then again... they are expensive and i dont think I want to waste a stick ..esp if I don't get a BFP this cycle. I think i will stick with the old fashioned sticks from now on in combination with temping. i never had an issue with them before.

I chose to list my CD info because my chart isn't relevant to my comment. My comment is specific to how the digi advance OPK works.. regardless of my other symptoms.

  • so i said screw it .. and ran one under water just to see. because since it locks in .. the remaining two strips are no good to me ... and sure enough ... the tap water appears to be fertile.

  • After 4 months ttc I am now pregnant.

Used advanced opk and my results went from empty circle to solid smily.
I was terrified. But still got pregnant

I am sure that if you are ttc, you are doing what you need to do to get pregnant anyway. Good luck to you. It's a rough waiting game.

Edit:  I forgot where I was for a second...flipping between too many tabs!
