Tell me to chill the eff out

Why am I overthinking this transition to formula? I have 2 spreadsheets devoted to a calendar and a count of my freezer stash to determine how long I can make it last.

I am leaning on you guys for one thing though...do any of you have a plan/recommendation for the BM to formula transition? Like how to slowly introduce and combine? My LC gave me one with Bradley and now I can't find it. Or should I just do cold turkey and a whole bottle of formula?

Or tell me to calm my tits and stop being so dramatic...

  • I don't have experience really but on the occasion I had to give dd formula, she took it with no problems. I say do whatever seems right to your gut. I'm all about easy, so i would go through freezer bm first but intro a full bottle/sippy of formula and see how he does. If he hates it, try a mix of bm/formula or another formula. Good luck!

I'm stressing too, LO can sniff out one oz of formula to 5 oz of BM. And he will refuse the whole bottle I'm going to try the ready made soon and see if he will take that better. I just hate mixing BM with formula because I end up tossing so much hope Ty isn't that picky.

  • Thanks guys. Honestly it was something that I just needed to express and get off my chest. Reading everyone's responses reaffirms my mommy confidence that this kid seems to shake with every transition!!

  • Well since my freezer broke and ruined my stash, we had to go cold turkey. Whenever I've replaced a nursing session I've given her a full bottle of formula. She's had no issues with it.

  • I'm guessing because you are so overprepared that it will be super easy, I literally think it depends on the child. h literally gave DD a full formula bottle one day, and she didn't seem to care at all. we switched cold turkey and apparently DD is a little porker and doesn't care what she's fed. I had planned to gradually intro with a bit of FF and BM mixed though.
This was us too! I EP'ed for 6 months but didn't have a very big stash. She took to a full bottle of formula right way, no issues. But, there is a variety she doesn't like - enfamil gentlease. She hated it! We tried to switch to that after some gas issues, she wasn't having it. Ended up staying with the regular formula and her gas issues subsided.

  • I also have spreadsheets to make sure my frozen milk lasts until June.  LO drinks either 6 or 8 oz bottles and my milk is frozen in 4oz bags, so he gets 4oz of milk and the rest formula to make sure we get to June.  He will take a 100% formula bottle now, but it didn't go over well in the beginning.  We also started with Enfamil and he hated it.  Tried Similac and it went much better. Up & Up went over really well too.  We gradually increased the formula until he got to the 4oz without complaining and after that he was able to take formula like a pro.

Haha express and get off your chest. I see what you did there!
I'm of the calm your tits camp. I'm also Excel in the office and wing it at the house so I'm no help. Crap I didn't even know I was out of my freezer stash until I gave poor Lo half a bottle of frozen Shiraz and BM last week. But both my boys will eat/drink just about anything so I kind of go with the flow on that and stress about other things (because there is always something to stress about as a mom!)

  • @wasnotwas I picture your house being super organized with all spaces maximized. Is this at all correct?
ugh, yes and I'm handing off these traits. Each type of toy has it's own color box around the house and lord help you if you put it in the wrong box, Bradley will yell at you...
