Breastfeeding

Vasospasms

Does anyone have experience with this and/or any advice? I'm miserable. The tips of my nipple turn white after every feeding and the pain/burning is so sharp for almost an hour or more, sometimes up to the next feeding. The pain goes straight through to my shoulder blades too. I took DD1 to the park yesterday and the cool weather was keeping my nipples hard and I eventually had to leave because the throbbing got so bad. The only thing that helps is a warm shower but of course, getting out is awful. It's been like this for almost a month although it seemed to be improving on one side until the most recent growth spurt (LO is 5.5w).

Now, the pain from all the frequent feedings coupled with the pain afterwards makes me want to just give up! Our latch is even starting to suffer because I'm wincing through the discomfort and know it's causing a more shallow latch.

TIA for any advice!!

Re: Vasospasms

  • I had this really bad for two months, now it is only when super cold or I have damage to nipple. I used a sock filled with rice that I put in the microwave before I stated nursing. Then after finishing I would quickly cover up and put the sock on my chest. I also would put a heating pad on my chest which really worked, especially in the middle of the night when I didn't want to go heat up the sock. If mine had gotten worse I was going to look into medication to help.

Mine eventfully improved to be tolerable, but I was very close to quitting due to it
