Cloth Diapering

Question about snaps

I'm just getting started in the cloth diapering world. I think I'm having too much fun! :) I'm using Bumgenius pockets. This may be a silly question, but should I unsnap the snaps (the ones that adjust the length of the diaper) before washing? I'm assuming yes, but didn't want to "wear out" the snaps unless necessary.
TIA, I've learned a lot from this board.

oh...one more question: At one point I found a giant spread sheet and a ton of different diaper types, brands, and i think inserts. I came back to look at it again and can't figure out how I got to it. Anyone know what I'm talking about or where I could find it? It was very helpful!

Re: Question about snaps

  • I never unsnap the rise.
  • Yeah. You don't have to adjust the rise snaps. Your making too much work for yourself.

  • That's just extra work. Don't you have enough work?
  • Agreed , no reason to unsnap except maybe the first washing.

I know which spreadsheet you're talking about, but FYI its pretty old. I think a few people have a linky in there siggy and it might be in the FAQ at the top of the board.

I really like padded tush stats website for reviews/ comparisons of different diapers if that's what you're after.

Thanks ladies! And don't worry...this is only our third day, so only minimal energy has been wasted!   :|

  • I don't mess with the rise snaps. I don't even resnap them closed after washing/before putting them away now. I figured it's less wear and tear.

  • I guess I'm the odd one here... I always unsnap the rise snaps before washing and resnap them after they are dry just before stuffing them.   It's not so much that they need to be unsnapped to wash but that I think they dry better/quicker unsnapped.

  • I don't unsnap the rise.

  • no way.  I'm so lazy, but like you said, snaps can wear so now, it doesn't affect the inside of the dipe getting cleaned.
