Daycare injury

I went to pick LO up at daycare today and she had a little injury. Apparently she was holding on to a toy shelf, fell, and banged her cheek. This left a bruise/red mark on her cheek. I didn't want to overreact, but I was not happy. LO seems ok. But this is the second injury she has has since becoming mobile. Normally I'm very happy with their service but I'm wondering if they are becoming a little too lax. Am I overreacting? Is this just par for the course?

  • IMO you are overreacting. Kids are gonna have accidents-- as long as it's just bumps and bruises, I'd chalk it up to learning to walk.
  • Thanks guys. Makes sense.

  • Agree with the others. If you really want someone that's going to follow your LO around as she crawls and pulls up on things then you should look into getting a nanny.

  • I was sitting right beside LO yesterday as she was trying to crawl around and climb. Her hand slipped and she smashed her mouth on the hardwood floor. I felt awful but there was really nothing I could have done...I was right there but she slipped so fast. Accidents happen.

  • I'm a personal believer in instinct. Know that as soon as they're mobile, they get injured, but if you feel like they might not be watching LO closely enough, you might want to think about things. Ask yourself if there are other reasons you might be questioning them...
  • I feel that you are overreacting, but I would have felt the same way the first go around too.

N has had several, bumps, scratches, knots, bruises, etc already. And I SAH with both boys. He is just so mobile, trying to walk and fearless. These babies be crazy, yo.

All say hold on to your pants bc it gets way worse! lol

My kid usually hurts herself once a day and it used to be more until she learned to sit from standing. Whether she gets her fingers in a drawer, wipes out walking along the couch, or behind her walker she usually has a good crash a day. It just makes them tough IMO.

I don't think you are overreacting - you are concerned your baby came home bruised- seems like a normal response to me. I would just say to them that since lo is getting more mobile that you would be appreciative if they could keep a closer eye on her. Just say it in a really nice way. I'd mention the bruises too. It's not gonna prevent all accidents but it might motivate them to be more conscientious.

This time is what I call the danger zone. LO was home with my H yesterday and stood by himself right as the hot dog dance came on, he tried to walk to H to dance and as he reached for him he fell. I agree with pp, as long as they tell you & it's nothing dire, it seems legit.

If OP wants someone to keep a close eye on her kid as to prevent this from happening often (bc believe me it's definitely going to happen again) she needs to look into a nanny, but even still it's going to happen.

  • I agree with everyone above, I watch him like a hawk and he still gets bumps and bruises

  • I know I already responded, but...today my daughter bumped her head no less than 5 times and I was sitting on the floor right next to her. It's gonna happen as they become mobile and learn to get around.

  • J has had two shiners. His knees are covered in bruises.... And we are always right there. It's part of the process.
