Topeka St Pat's parade

we'll be in town that weekend with our boys (5 and 2.5).  Has anyone been to know about parking and if it's kid friendly?  I'm vaguely familiar with the area, and would love to go if the kids will like it.  But will skip if it's just an adult green beer fest.  Thanks!

I grew up in Topeka and loved going to the parade, but parking is hard to find. A lot of people will get there extremely early and park on the street before they block it off. The last time we were in Topeka for the parade we got a hotel only a few blocks from the route so we wouldn't have to worry about parking.
