I am not Italian, but I married one that is 100%. We had quite the battle naming our 2 kids. What made matters worse was we were team green so we had to battle over 2 names instead of just 1. We liked the name Sophia would call her Sophie but it is ridiculously popular so we canned it.
I didn't want a kid with a name sounding like s/he came straight out of Italy when I am not Italian AT ALL just like my husband didn't want a kid sounding like s/he came straight out of Ireland when he isn't Irish. So basically I am useless to you LOL. It seems a lot of the Italian girl names are super popular these days and that put us off to most of them. My husband has a traditional name that is popular so he didn't want our child to have to be 1 of 5 kids with the same name in their class.

Good Luck with name choices!!!
I completely get your point on the super popular names. I am a teacher so I firsthand see the trends. It is such a hard decision bc it is permanent. Hopefuly DH and I will agree on a name. lol
I'm 3/4 Italian so it was important for me to have at least one Italian name for each of my kids. We picked Giada (but spelled it wrong so my oldest could have the same initials as her dad). My second DD is Natalia nn Talia and my third DD is Sophia Gianna nn Phia!
ladylisalt - Oh I feel your pain. Both my husband and I are teachers so that made matters even worse in the naming dept Good Luck in whatever you decide. We used nymbler.com to get some name ideas. You can input names you like and it generates a list of names within the same vain. You may find something that may peak your interest.
Love Francesca. For the teaching ladies, do you hear a certain name and cringe because of a nightmare student you had at some point? Lol I swear even my husband remembered those kids I had so immediate veto on those.

ha ha YES! I totally get this! Although I had a Nicholas that really annoyed me and that's my son's name so I got over that but it really does make it hard.
I love Giada! My good friends name is Pina. We are teachers also and there were some great names to others, that we just couldn't stomach. My worst student had an Italian name- Nico. I cringe!!!
Rosario/Rosaria, nn Roe. That is a huge family name for my Italian husband & we're trying to work it in now, although I don't love it. More of a middle name maybe. We also like Sadie, which I'm not sure is necessarily Italian but it's what his Italian grandmother was called....
I'm 100% italian and so is my husband. We're leaning toward Francesca but also considering Arianna, Lucia, Giovanna (although that's becoming trendy where I live), and Sarafina (worried it's too close to Serafina, a popular restaurant in NY where I live). I also have a niece on the way named Giuliana.

Is Giovanna becoming trendy? I think thats what we might go with.
