Low thyroid???

My labs came back with a borderline low thyroid, so dr wants to send me to an endocrinologist . Any other ladies have issues with their thyroid??

Re: Low thyroid???

  • Funny you should post this. I just came back from my high risk appointment and he prescribed synthroid for this very reason. Said that it could cause nervous system problems or thyroid issues for baby.

I haven't filled it yet. Want to talk to my regular OB.

  • I have been on synthroid since before I was pregnant! And everything is so far so good.
  • I've been on thyroid meds for a few years and am being tested more often now that I'm pg since levels can change with weight gain & other pg changes. So far I haven't needed a dose adjustment. I think it's great that they caught it. Better for you & LO.

  • I've also been on thyroid meds for several years. They will just monitor your levels each month, and as long as they are keeping an eye on it, it shouldn't be a problem. You probably won't need the meds after the baby is born.
  • I've been on them a few years and I needed an adjustment soon after finding out I was pregnant. I have labs due next week to see what to do next. My OB had no clue how to maintain my thyroid levels and thought they were good (they were bad) so they leave that to my endo. I'd trust your endo. It's their specialty.
  • I've had a low thyroid since BFP. It's really important to monitor it closely and take your synthroid correctly. The synthroid shouldn't have any side effects for you or baby. Low thyroid throughout pregnancy can cause some worrisome stuff though .
  • I have been on compounded thyroid meds since last year (thyroid issues due to previous pregnancies). My Dr is monitoring my thyroid every 12 weeks just to make sure things are still where they need to be. I've already had to reduce my meds a little because my body is absorbing things more efficiently now that I'm pg. My Dr says that pregnancy can really mess with an otherwise normally functioning thyroid.

  • Thanks for all the info and advice ladies, just freaked me out a little cause my thyroid was normal when I was pregnant with DS .
  • I've been on synthroid for a few years, and so far so good. Hypothyroidism runs in my family, and one of my cousins started taking meds while pregnant, and she had a smart, perfect little girl. Don't worry, see the endocrinologist and go from there :)
