Low Fetal Heartrate at 6w0d

Hey!

Background:  I had a miscarriage in 2012, so they are watching me closely this time - but of course I am a nervous wreck!

So I had my first ultrasound yesterday, and when I went in last week they called me and told me that my progesterone levels were low (14.2), and then this time, we could see the baby's heartbeat (literally we SAW IT), but it is "too low" at 89.  The baby is measuring at 6w0d... This does make my progesterone levels make more sense, but then they dropped the bomb about the heartrate.  She said it should be in the 180s or something high like that! I was a MESS after the appointment, but have been trying to stay positive.  Should I just prepare for the worst?

I feel like you were misinformed. At that point, the heart probably just started beating. My baby's heartbeat was not in the 180's even at our 8 week US this week. I believe you are likely fine. Are they repeating an US in another week or 2?

At 5w6d we only saw one heartbeat and it was 92, the other one wasn't even measureable.  My doctor was happy with that.  I just went back yesterday for a f/u and their hb's were 162 and 147.

The heart has to start somewhere, and at 6w exactly it's a 50/50 chance whether you even see a heartbeat.   Plus everything PPs have said.

From what I have hear, a heartbeat is a good thing!  Mine had one of 177 at 8w1d last week.  So 180 at 6w is a bit of a stretch.

Good luck and I hope your next us goes well!

180 is a high heartbeat. I was 7w2d and the heartbeat was 143bpm. My son (who is now 5) never had a heart rate over 157bpm. Like other posters said, 6 week is super early and the heart is just starting to beat, I would try not to worry (I know easier said than done) until your next appointment.

I just had my first scan at 6 weeks 0 days. My OB didn't even look for a heartbeat because she said it was still very early.

Went in @ 6w1d and no heartbeat. Went in again at 7w3d and it was 150 bpm. Just remember it starts slow.

I agree with PP. DD never had a heartbeat over 160 and she's a healthy happy toddler.

This happened to me! I went I for my first us last week. Baby measured 6w1d and heartbeat was only 87. I was told it was low and had to come back in a week. Longest week ever!!! I went in yesterday for my second ultrasound and baby is on track with a heartbeat of 125! I can't tell you not to worry (I know that's impossible) but don't expect the worse

The heart probably just started beating so it would be low. DS was only 103 at 6 weeks 2 days and he is more than fine!!! I wouldn't worry.

I agree with PP. We had an urgent visit at the obgyn and I was 6w1d due to spotting, and the HB was in the 70's. The doctor stated to see everything he was seeing that early was a great sign and that everything looked great. We saw the baby again the next week for my official first appointment one day before I was 7weeks and the HB was 141 bpm.

Whoever have you that info is nutso. I went in at exactly 7 weeks and the HR was 147. At 6 weeks, the heart is just beginning to beat and when you go back in, I imagine you will see an appropriate HR. FX for you, not that you need it!
