Baby Names

Narrowing down the girl name

DH and I were talking about the names we are finally narrowing it down to if the baby is a girl. One thing I brought up was how it would sound as an adult on a resume. I wanted to get your thoughts. Here are the names:

Juliette Bailey
Bailey Ashlin/Ashlynn
Ashlin/Ashlynn Bailey
Bailey Harper
Ashlin/Ashlynn Harper

With the Ashlin/Ashlynn thing, we aren't sure what spelling we like. I am not a fan of Lynn at the end of names, so I thought Ashlin would be fine. Thoughts on that spelling?

Thanks! Also, just curious, does this board like open ended posts like this or more of the poll set up?

Re: Narrowing down the girl name

  • Juliette is the only one from your list I like.

I personally prefer clicky polls. If I want to explain further, I can.

  • I really dislike Ashlyn/Ashlin. I don't love Bailey. I like Juliette and Harper. Is Juliette Harper an option?
Actually Juliette Harper was the name we were going to go with before I started having doubts. I guess with DD I just knew what her name would be and loved it. This time, I like it, I am not in love with it. I think it will still be on our short list of names when we go in to have the baby.

  • I think of a previous student. Her name is Ashton. Of your choices, I like Juliette the most.
  • I prefer the Irish spelling, Aislinn. Otherwise, I like Juliet.

    Me too.

  • Another vote for Juliet/Juliette.  (Prefer the former.)  Ashlynn (etc.) sounds a lot like what's trendy right now and I think it will seem dated soon.  I feel you could do better than Bailey as well.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I have a follow up question about Juliette. I like the NN Jules, not Julie or Julia. I know that is something I cannot control as she gets older and in school and stuff and, if it's a girl, I will always call her Juliette, so that's fine. But. Do you think it would be snotty if I asked her daycare to only use the Jules NN or her full name?

This baby will probably end up being a boy and all this won't matter, ha ha!

  • Juliette by a mile. Though I prefer the Juliet spelling.

  • Juliette, hands-down. I think it's ok to tell teachers what to call her, but you won't be able to control what her friends call her.

  • I only like Juliette. Our daycare asked us what our kids go by, I think it's fine to tell them that you prefer Jules. Just don't be upset if they call her something else, that's life.

  • @Capulet - I believe she is a Juliet.  She may be able to give some insight about the nn thing.  I can't see anyone calling her Julie or Julia - those seem like different names to me.  However, I could be off-base.
    Hey there!

So my name is Juliet but I went by Julie in school until second grade, when I was in a class with a Julianne and a Julia NN Julie.  Since then I've gone by my full name, except among family, and just corrected people when they try to call me Julie (which happens sometimes), NBD.  Sometimes people mishear my name as Julia if I don't really emphasize the last syllable, which is kind of annoying, but it's worth it to have a good name.

FWIW Juliette is the only one of your FN choices I like, and I much much prefer the Juliet spelling, which is less overwrought and more elegant in its simplicity, IMO - obviously I'm biased.
