Weaning the MOTN feeding

How do I do this? I just need some good sleep yet he still wakes up between 1-3am for a feed. I BF.

I am not a big fan of CIO and LO is teething so not sure how to go about this. Any tips?

I agree with Ducky. I'd definitely wait for teething to be over before trying to change up the schedule. We didn't CIO either. You could try moving up the feeding on your own time table to make it more of a dream feed. Then, drop that. That didn't work for us, but we were trying to keep the boys on the same schedule and they had different eating needs. In our case, the boys just ended up sleeping a little more and more until that feeding got pushed back to morning.

How old is LO? I am not seeing that info in your siggy - maybe I"m missing it?

What ruthie04 said. I would have tried Dream feeding if LO hadn't started sleeping until 4am and then a little longer as she matured. I was also concerned about weight gain until she was about 6 months old. When we introduced solids I wasn't quite as concerned. I found that if I could get a solid 5 hours of sleep at a time I was good to go. I hope you get some good stretches of sleep soon.

Hummm - on that note, I don't really have any suggestions Definitely don't start until the tooth pops, and then probably try a dream feed.

Is he eating a lot in the MOTN feed? My LO kept waking up for one - but it was completely a comfort feed. I stopped nursing at 6 months and she dropped it right away. However, she still continued to wake up until 10 months when I did the sleep training.

No matter what I hope you get something that works in the near future. Being tired sucks

Like others said wait until he is done teething. Then I would start trying to find out if he is actually eating or soothing due to habbit at night. Cut the feeding shorter and shorter every few nights. That is how I did it. Does your lo take a pacifier? Once I completly cut the feeding I just sent DH in to put his pacifier in his mouth and that was it. Soon he just grabbed his paci and wouldn't fuss at all for that 3 am feeding. DS was also starting to eat a ton of solids when I dropped the middle of night feeding so I knew he was full and didn't need the milk. Good luck!

Start shortening the MOTN feeding by a minute or two at a time until it's a minute. Then drop it. Ferber also advises swapping the feeding for water in a sippy. If they don't want that, then they clearly aren't thirsty. Whether you believe in CIO or not, I highly recommend Ferber's book as he talks a lot about sleep associations and other night time issues such as MOTN feedings. GL!

Thanks. Up I think he wants a decent feed during the night but once these next teeth come through I will start to reduce the time as suggested. Last night he went to bed a few hours late but slept to 5:30am so it was not so bad.

Completely agree with the above. It's helped us we are almost down to one feeding. The water worked and now we are struggling with teething and a cold so we made some adjustments. Good luck it's not easy to cut out the MOTN feedings.
